Oh I definitely agree. Tokyo has done an excellent job keeping housing supply ahead of demand. That means the price of the housing in Tokyo is primarily the cost of T&M for the property, where as the cost of housing in California is alm

My understanding is that the most cost effective building height is ~8 stories tall. That's usually the height where wood can still be used and seismic resistance is generally a non-issue. Any higher and steel must be used and the pric

Just the choice of using NCA batteries over NCM could be viewed as a safety cost cutting measure. Here's a scientific paper about the safety of various battery chemistries (warning, PDF): https://res.mdpi.com/wevj/

And Americans tend to be overweight and unhealthy. Access to healthcare doesn't automatically shift culture to live a healthier lifestyle (and I suspect it might even do the opposite).

My understanding is that there's very little demand for Tesla's chemistry (low cobalt NCA). All other automakers prefer NCM, primary because: * better sustained performance compared to NCA * better peak/burst performance comp

Arguably you could mix and match any of the jvm languages to your liking. Jython, JRuby, Kotlin, Scala are all reasonable alternatives to Java while being easier to hire for than Clojure.

Then there's the people mover for inner-LAX travel between the train station and the terminals scheduled for 2023. But once that and the connection to red/purple is done, I'd say LA's public transit would be in a reasona

I think LA's is only really usable to get to/from DTLA. The nice part is DTLA is becoming more eventful, so you actually want to go there sometimes for non-work reasons. Getting anywhere else is a bit of a crapshoot for the last-m

I think the incentive structure needs to change to discourage hoarding. Currently, the payout always increases as you hold onto a scooter. What I think solves the problem is: * An small bonus for nabbing the scooter while it still has a bit

They cost <$500 at retail prices. Assuming they have 15 miles of range at max speed (15mph), worst case one charge only gets them $10 ($1 to start + 0.15/min * 60min), $5 of which goes to the person who picks it up and recharges it.
