Yup. Back in the day, women in traditional housewife roles were major contributors to their household finances [1]. They used their own unpaid labor to transform raw materials into goods that saved their family from having to purchase them

Agreed. How many times have you heard a man say he had to choose between his career and having kids? The fact that it is predominantly women who feel they have to choose between children and career IS institutional sexism. We say we've

Please write up your experiences! What works? What doesn't work? How are you structuring the program? Your idea is fantastic and I think documentation would useful for others that might want to implement something similar.

This is a really awesome idea. I love how it leverages a public space that is already culturally oriented towards making knowledge accessible to everyone.

On the contrary, I use volunteer work as a time to take a break from tech. In the past I've volunteered as elementary school classroom help, tutored students of various ages, and coached line for a local high school football team. Yes,

Pretty much all aquatic species larger than the orca are relatively peaceful and do not harass other species (eg, baleen whales, sperm whales, whale sharks, basking sharks). It's not merely a size thing. Orcas, in fact, tend to harass

This map is really hit and miss for me. As a Missourian, I agree with the way Missouri is split up, right down the counties. But the Upper Midwest (sans Chicago) is way closer to the rest of the Midwest than it is to New England. It has its

Speaking of market opportunity, are there SDVs being tested in outside of California and Arizona? The rest of the US gets its fair share of rain, snow, and ice. Even if the Bay Area can manage self-driving cars, when would we expect a rollo

Memorize important phone numbers (eg, close friends and family). Memorize at least one of your credit card numbers. It's not uncommon to find yourself in a situation without a phone or wallet. Can't tell you how many times a would

There a lot more options than tracked vs non-tracked. My public school district implemented a combination of pull-out programs, advanced sections, and tracking on a per-subject and sometimes per-previous year's performance basis. A lot

I'm in the same boat. Installed the betas on both iPad and MBP about a month ago. Turns out my 2015 pre-horrible-keyboard MBP is too old. And none of the published hacks around the restriction work nowadays.

One of the perks of owning a rabbit is that we rarely have to worry about fresh produce going bad. The rabbit eats all the scraps from our own cooking (stems, carrot tops, etc) and any surplus veggies we happened to buy. It's wonderful

One possible reason: pathology labeling can be prohibitively expensive. You're looking at paying highly-trained specialists to sit down and hand-segment regions of cell types on an entire slide.

It's easier to change infrastructure to be pro-cycling than it is to change the culture. I'll take mindful drivers over protected bike lanes, any day. The only protected lane in my town (Madison) is one that goes against traffic.
