I don't buy that. The OrangePi is crazy for what you get. And it's $15 with $3 shipping. I don't see a reason to buy the CHiP, given I can get a OrangePi ordered right now and have them in 3 weeks.

I think the problem here is that capitalism when played out in a longer term, trends towards crony capitalism, fascism, plutocracy, and/or nepotism.

I know a good deal about the Middle Ages, being part of the SCA. And indeed, it did work pretty well. The problem is now is that it's not just 1 or 2 people involved with health of the area. It's the doctor, the 2 nurses, the 2 re

That's right, the capitalist-libertarian answer is always "Fuck you, pay me", or in this case, "fuck you, die". We have insurance. Its a great way to leverage the group so that all get a low rate. That given, "

Consent isn't always consent. In medical industry, there is the idea of "informed consent", which attempts to make sure both parties are aware of the consent given. (Mainly in regards to treatments.)

Yep. Node-red remixed with some MQTT in a non-supported way. yay. As for me, I'll roll my own and stick with Node-red, mySensors arduino/nRF24L01+ stack. It just works, and it works Now. And compatibility is easy to do. Connecting

OpenHAB is great, if it's a house. When you start to move in the area of building automation tech, we have to deal with Luteon. And that means MSSQL database, and "pain and suffering". And there's no way to dynamically e

I'm rolling out a test network at the university of IoT. Instead of going with XYZ expensive setup, I'm rolling my own using an Arduino (clone) nano, sensors, and nRF24L01+ using mysensors library. On the acquisition end, I'm

Sigh. I live in Bloomington, Indiana, USA. And our local grocer (Kroger) has Jackfruit. It's $5/lb and the pod is around 6-10 lbs. They had one on sale, and I bought it, only knowing the name. The thing was pretty good, given I kn

Look at the bright side: in a few years, Apple users might be able to run multiple programs... at the same time!* * Like Windows and Linux.

Ah, true. I can think of microcontrollers without RTCs. But I usually handle that by ignoring time completely until acquiring it by the data logging device (usually a computer with appropriate time sense).

Yes, and bureaucracy never petitions for less bureaucracy. Only more. And we see this in multiple areas, and not just the FDA. FDA bureaucracy equals more people dying because of slowness. FCC bureaucracy equals regressive rules on radio tr

And why people are so scared about automation even here is: They know our current way of splitting up wealth and resources is not sustainable. Capitalism itself calls for lowering costs and beating "opposition's prices". This

Ah, so if every bank gives a 1000 page boilerplate "contract", and they all entail usurious fees, it's just the person's problem because they should have known? Well, fuck that logic. All the banks are acting in a cartel

No. The schools provide laptops to the kids. And then make them "kid accounts". Then the school process all of those reports and punishes based on them... or sells them to advertising firms.

Better hope the kid isn't GLBT in a right winger christian family. That would not go over well. "Microsoft outed me, and now I'm homeless", says 17 year old.
