Mumble is great. I've personally used it with friends for about ten years now. The main client, while not as intuitive as Discord, is pretty easy to use and get used to. Many of my friends are non-technical and never had problems using

I honestly find the UX, clients, and echo cancelation to be great with Mumble and Mumla on mobile. I guess YMMV.

An alternative to reading this awfully preachy, condescending blog post is to instead watch this clip of Andrei Tarkovsky[1]. [1] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Vvdtaaprzw

I've been using LTSB/LTSC since 2016 as my daily driver, and it's been great.

Thanks, I didn't know about this. This is concerning, and I agree, very vague.

I can recommend Migadu. Worth it if you already pay for a domain (which you should, imo, to have a portable e-mail address). I pay for the $19 annual plan and find it sufficient, and I love the flexibility of the admin panel.

Been driving a Honda Civic 2005 since high school, still runs strong. I am convinced I am the happiest car owner ever.

I'm not sure what Medium is anymore, to be honest. I want to say it's a blogging platform, but it feels more like a doom-scroll inducing social media platform to me these days. There are a few alternatives if you just want to blog

Can someone explain these frameworks to me? Is Next.js and Gatsby in the same scope? I know they use React under the hood, but are the components rendered server-side? Does that mean no JS is delivered to the client?

The UX and featureset of Discord is impressive. The UX in particular is superior to Slack, Teams, or any other modern chat application I've used. I'd like to move my group to Matrix, but Element (fka Riot.im) is nowhere near as po

I no longer use PHP, but I have to say, I truly appreciate the regular articles on the state of PHP by @brendt_gd. I think they're absolutely awesome, and I wish I could get the same kind of regular rundowns for Python, for example. :)

Great work! Question -- I love the grid/layout system you have. I'm wondering if there is an open-source library that helped you enable this? I'd like to use something similar for a personal tool. :) Thank you.

This guide recommends Learn C The Hard Way by Zed Shaw as further reading, but the ##C Freenode Channel specifically recommends avoiding it[1]. Can anyone tell me why this book is so contentious? [1] http://www.iso-9899.info/

I switched from Sublime to VSCode around 2017, and then switched back to Sublime in 2019. My return to Sublime was triggered by a funfunfunction video[1] wherein Mattias recounts an anecdote where he spent an enormous amount of time learnin

This is bad for applicants who may be at dead-end jobs that don't provide much meaningful development experience, so instead choose to self-learn and/or contribute to OSS to fill the void. Not saying your strategy is bad, just tha

I'm always puzzled by these kinds of retorts. It's wonderful that you've never experienced performance or resourcing issues with Electron apps. But just because you haven't, doesn't mean other people don't. For

Hey! Just want to say kudos for your work. I've been flirting with using Lua for some projects, and from my research, I feel like Lua as a language and an ecosystem is widely underappreciated. Teal seems well thought out and something

Hey, I was trying to do this same thing for a TypeScript project I was bootstrapping. Digging around the issue tracker, I recall the maintainer stating that this is currently not in the scope of esbuild, and that swc[0] might be better suit

Hi, I tried accessing your site, but seems like it's stuck in this weird reload loop. It never full loads. I'm on Ubuntu 20.04 using the latest Firefox, if that helps. EDIT: Seems to load fine in Chromium.

I like to chime in every time I see a thread about Mithril. I learned modern SPA development with Mithril and in many ways still prefer it over React or Svelte. It's definitely starting to show its age as many of the main contributors

I wrote a brief blog post[1] about vanilla state management in Mithril. Since Mithril triggers redraws on event handler calls, as another user said, you can just use POJOs very easily. [1] https://kevinfiol.com/blog/sim

User-friendliness. IRC and even Matrix is daunting to the average mom or gamer-friend. Even if they're not, there's the network effect (I can't convince even a quarter of my friends to move over to Matrix or IRC).
