Solar did not just rise mysteriously - it was driven by government policy, first by huge feed in tariffs (US$270/MWh) and later with massive rebates. "West Australians who applied for rooftop solar panels from the 1st of July 2010

If you invest in a aluminium smelter you will want to run it 24/7, not just when there's cheap power. Also Australia enjoys the most expensive power in the world because of grid costs.

If solar covered one percent of the UK it would meet the country’s entire power demand. That's a guarantee of making a huge part of the country uninhabitable if the UK went all solar. https://www.solarpowerportal.co.uk/

Noor II CSP is a 600GWh solar plant which is 2.6 square miles or ~1700 football fields. That's space permanently lost if the powerplant is run forever. A nuclear waste dump is tiny in comparison. Land use of solar is gigantic.

Ignoring clouds, the daily average insolation for the Earth is approximately 6 kWh/m2. [1] So you get about 0.25 KWe averaged daily per m2. Solar has serious land use issues. It is estimated that 1% of the UK would need to be given ove

The market is easily distorted by government. Want nuclear to win? Interest free loans. Want wind/solar to win? Subsidies. Put a thumb on the scale and make it say whatever you want.

Mountains of red tape don't exist in the communist dictatorship of China yet they haven't broken ground on a new plant since 2016 [1]. There are fundamental economic problems with nuclear that prevent it from being the power solut

Land use of solar prevents it ever getting really cheap. According to the UK solar power portal [1]: "If solar covered one percent of the UK it would meet the country’s entire power demand". > just build twice as much solar cap

I think you've misunderstood the change in growth rate. It has dropped from 1.19% to 1.08% growth in the last five years or down 0.11%. If this trend held in the next five years it would drop to 0.97% growth by 2024 and in ~50 years it

The source I provided shows that the growth rate has been consistently dropping. In 2015,2016,2017,2018 it was 1.19,1.14,1.12,1.10 Not sure you can extrapolate out 100 (or 66) years when there's been a 0.11% (1.19 -> 1.08) change in
