You do know that Microsoft, Oracle, Meta are all in on this right? Heck I think it is being used to run ChatGPT 3.5 and 4 services.

There is this new AI features, but I feel there was also a bigger reason to upgrade that was almost completely ignored. A huge set of media companies have shifted to using AV1 and these older devices are gonna get hammered for battery. I wa

Isn't that kind of the ideal cycle though? From what I recall, consoles operate on the gilette model, ie the console is sold at a loss and games are the breadwinner. In this case, better to reduce early sales which are sold at a loss (

Does it really need saying? We know it is terrible, we know there is microplastics almost everywhere. At this point it feels like little Timmy playing with fireworks next to the forest fire. Everyone and everything involved is terrible. Tim

The h200 is unobtanium full stop. It is available at the end of the year possibly next year. At the moment, the things on the market and actually usable is H100 and mi300X.

Have you tried running Linux natively on a secureboot Surface? If you are running Linux in a vm, both are fine. Most people want battery life, and if someone can afford to get either of these devices, they would be better off renting their

Why would anyone be doing this on their glued in laptop? If they are needing a dev machine, are you really trying to argue this is better than the mbp, thinkpads, hps or dells? You are claiming performance figures at what 115W max turbo? Wh

They didn't even give a battery life figure over here. That tells volumes at how good this device is. Apple front and center on all-day, 18 hour battery life. >No, it absolutely is not. Windows software (the vast majority that’s use

They may get kickbacks, but if they want to eat Apple's pie it makes little sense for this kind of move which would massively hamstring growth. Also don't really see the benefit for Microsoft for the kickbacks (are they desperate

Just gonna also say the current US zoning laws are batty when it comes to sustainability. You shouldn’t segment commercial and residential zones and suburbia in general is a massive disaster. You want sustainable cities, you need high dense

If it is unclear what I am saying, read my comment again. Pretty obvious what I am saying that as a currency Bitcoin is garbage. The value is artificially propped up with tether, easy trading and illegal activity. The energy costs undoes an

Are you really gonna spew this line of reasoning dear crypto bro? You know the answer and energy cost of both here. One serves an entire a nation at an energy cost that is less than this waste of computation. The other causes a enegy cost e

For what? It has been done for a while now. The fastest, lowest latency mechanisms will always offload to accelerator cards in hardware.

▲

TLS offload also exists and is normally implemented on NIC too. Basic goal here is not to process this on CPU as that is slow and compute that could be used for user apps/customers.

For hyperscalers in the cloud and low latency finance, tcp is likely still king. You do not want things running on CPU as that is compute that could be sold to someone else. This needs an easy way to offload to a specialised hardware accele

I feel the main limitation over here is hardware optimisation support. With TCP you have the congestion control algo baked in hardware, tcp segment and checksum offload. You can pass things directly to the NIC for massive latency, bandwidth

That is the current graviton model right? They beat on price and energy with no SMT. This should be ok I assume in a similar vein if you can stuff as many cores as possible.

Sure but they didn’t do anything here but apply a microcode patch… Heck they are taking attention away from the original authors and what shining a spotlight at their hardware partner’s flaw?
