Not sure how far you can practically get with that -- I've seen some rather steep roofs have a lot of snow build up. It's generally accepted around here that roofs have to be shoveled (or otherwise cleared off).

This whole thing feels like a solution to a problem that's already been solved. If students want to decide where to go to school based on academic strength rather than the gym facilities and sports teams, they are already free to do so. I k

Non-scrolling headers/footers break the way Page Up and Page Down work, because the visible size is no longer the size of the scrollable area. It also seems to break their "Parent" links -- it ends up with the top bar partially covering t

Young-Earth creationism is ignorance of physics, not biology. And you'll find a lot less objection to YEC physicians than to stork-theorist physicians (remember, the example Dawkins started with, and the one you quoted).

The NP-complete problems are a subset of NP ("nondeterministic polynomial") problems, specifically those to which all NP problems are polynomial-time reducible. They are, in essence, the hardest problems in class NP. It's pretty trivial to

Looking at the list of what's included with lazynewb, I really don't see much in there that I'd expect to reduce the difficulty for a new player. Plenty of utilities and such for making the interface easier to understand, but the gameplay m

What's purple and commutes? An abelian grape. What's purple and commutes and is worshipped by a limited number of people? A finitely-venerated abelian grape. What's purple and had all of its children committed to mental hospitals? A simple

Yeah, I came in expecting something like a discussion of a grading system with options A, B, Incomplete and what effect it's had on students' learning/progress.

Yes, apparently we have. While I didn't really expect it would be heard in person (and rather doubt it is all that often), this sort of attitude has been fairly easy to find online for some time now.

What's the use of a 1,000 houses in a town of 100 people? I don't think we gain much by assuming that a person with a PhD is only good for one thing when trying to find another use for them.

Bcrypt is backed by Blowfish, designed by Bruce Schneier. Go look it/him up. It's secure. Well, yes, I trust the Blowfish cipher (and GP probably does too). The question is how we can be sure it isn't being somehow misapplied, i.e. whethe

Due to the way Prolog backtracks to find a final solution, it can be increadibly slow, and it has to be able to 'undo' an operation. On top of that, from what I recall, it's pretty easy to have the backtracking to stumble into an infinite

How does he keep the feathers from getting pushed up against the cacti? I've been avoiding this problem with drowning-based traps. When I do use cacti, it's just to filter out spiders (which need a differently-shaped drowner).

Our monthly gas bill has never exceeded $140. Split across the 5 of us, that's pretty affordable. Edit: Perhaps I should also add that it stays below $40 for at least half the year.

And no place I've seen matches Houghton on cost of living. The linked article says $1700 for a 2-bedroom apartment. My friends and I rent a 5-bedroom house for less than that.
