Maybe I'm missing something, but their web site appears to discuss probabilistic procedures, which is not nondeterminism in the Turing machine sense.

Abstract problem solving the interesting part. Trying to fix or work around poorly implemented/documented operations/semantics is the worst part.

The journal in question isn't even peer reviewed. Was it therefore regarded by those in that field at the time as almost a vanity press? Or did they consider it a respectable, reputable journal?

Do you mean something like the case of quicksort mentioned in the post?[1] I was taught average- and best-case analysis along with worst-case analysis. Or do you mean some other fact not revealed by that analysis? [1] "Quicksort is a magica

Would it be possible to save such data as an aggregation of runtime-profiles that could be used to 1) speed up execution and 2) back-port static type annotations to the source code? It should. I recently ran across a page looking to colle

Wouldn't Amazon be able to tell if existing customers are avid readers or not by their purchase history? Sure, if they buy their books from Amazon. I tend to buy from brick-and-mortar stores (a habit I should perhaps get out of, since the

I would probably read it differently depending on the background of the person who wrote it (mostly based on how aware I'd expect the writer to be of the problems involved). I've seen people with a basic understanding of compilers stumble o

Do you mean that we'd see men marrying richer classmate women and thus feeling less need to earn money themselves? I don't think our society's typical gender roles tend that way. I think sole breadwinners are usually expected to be men.

Note that I ripped an equal amount of commit messages per language so the results aren't based on how many projects there are per language. I like how he had to tweak the data collection process to make the visualization method fit.

Around here, students generally major in what they want to do for a career. It's not that a person isn't capable of doing things they didn't study -- they just aren't likely to be all that interested.
