It would be really, really harmful to allow people to make posts and disable replies. Insulation from disagreement is a mindkiller and will destroy the health of a community.

In space, if two small dust particles collide, they are probably moving at very high speed in relation to each other, and there's obviously no air to affect the impact. I don't know what that means, but I expect our intuition abo

This is an important point, and making it doesn't mean you condone smoking. "A study in Preventive Medicine Report looked at the risk of smokers developing lung cancer. The researchers found that the average risk for nonsmokers ov

In Jayne's 'The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind', there's some interesting investigation into some of our oldest known tales... Beowulf, The Iliad, etc. In those texts, emotional and mental

I'm going to have to argue that point. The best decaf is just ok. Typical decaf is pretty noticeably bad. I go on decaf stints occasionally, and not opposed to it. I'm grateful it exists. But you do pay for it in taste.

Is there seriously an ability and reasonable chance that they could and would test the octane in your tank? That is surprising to me.

There's a lot of sloppy usage of the term 'memory' to describe something that's more like a 'consequence'. If you cut a tree, it will heal, and then decades later the effect of the cut will still be influencing

How much is music, art, fiction sapping the Intellectual potential of humanity? Let alone 'Love'. What a distraction that is from coding.

I don't really want to talk to celebrities per se, but it would be interesting to talk to the best possible recreation of historical figures. Like an AI trained on everything Winston Churchill wrote and a detailed biography.

No, some of us know it's a completely fake argument, know that people just want it for fun, even support legalization, and still hate the liars. The amount of half-braindead pot smokers earnestly talking about their medical need to g

Which is weird, because I've never spoken with anybody who hasn't opted in. I think there's a legal disconnect somewhere, where the simple opt-in at the DMV doesn't end up counting as a 'real' opt-in.

If it needs to happen, and your team can't do it, somebody else needs to. Your best bet then is to give them the access to do it properly instead of forcing them to hack it together.

I knew it would kill hundreds or thousands of people when I voted for it. I also intensely dislike recreational drug use. But people should be in charge of their own behavior, even if self-destructive.
