I use Youmail for voicemail and have been really happy with it. I pay the $20/year or whatever it is for a paid account.

Didn't read the OP's link yet, but it sounds like it's talking about this: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/09/your-money/09shortcuts.htm...

I went to an MS store in LA the other week. It was sad, but I couldn't stop laughing. Why is there an MS store when all of the products on display aren't even MS products? The tablet right in the front of the store didn't even work (touchsc

This is completely unhelpful. All of those are changes for 3.2, not 3.2.1. 3.2.1 is a minor bugfix release. Source control has a changelog for 3.2.1 specifically[1] but I didn't see it posted anywhere outside of Mercurial. [1] http://hg.py

Yes, 'nonlocal' definitely closed a hole in the language.

I dunno if I'd say that's an issue of Python not having proper closures, or just that before you could say 'nonlocal' there was no way to refer to the outer scope, since the only scopes you could refer to were 'local' and 'global'.

Well, your first example makes sense. It ensures you're always referring to the same-scoped 'a' throughout your function. FWIW if you said 'global a' at the start of 'print_and_assign_a', Python wouldn't have a problem: >>>

To learn Ruby I decided to redo my website in it, and I felt the complete opposite. I was surprised there's nothing comparable in the Ruby world to Jinja2 or Mako. Nothing supports blocks/macros or template inheritance, so I wrote my own sm

Great and thorough article. Here's a TLDR: * Javascript has some warts, and here are some examples. * It's going to take way too long to get these fixed to the point that we can actually start using new versions of Javascript because of slo

More like "how Ruby and Clojure don't really support keyword arguments". Unless you can do something like: >>> def foo(a,b): ... print a,b ... >>> foo(b=1,a=2) 2 1 then you don't support k

I'm very glad to see this more-serious optimization of the Go and C++ implementations of the original benchmark, which was less than thorough, and not equally fair to each language. It's interesting that the optimized Go and C++ code ultima

Haven't finished watching this yet, but the GIL has been improved as of 3.2. For instance, the example he gives where threading two copies of a CPU-bound function doubles execution time isn't as terrible given the recent rework of the GIL.

Heck, assignment itself is a statement. That's why you can't say while x=y: ... (and you'll notice the REPL gives no return value for an assignment). This "Python has no statements" error was one of my biggest annoyances with this article,

I will love it if in a couple of years the mainstream implementation of Python is PyPy. People are going to be upgrading their Python installations anyway when they move to Python 3. If y'all can get Python 3 support in, maybe people will s
