Agree, I'm tired of all the minor release announcements on HN. There've been posts for every minor release of KeePass, for instance.

TLDR: Hard to read blathering on minimalism, then a game of "guess what movie these four pixels represent".

Can anyone else not stand the ribbon UI? It drives me nuts. If ribbon UIs are going to be even more pervasive in Windows, I'm even more glad I switched to Mac.

I've been using Komodo Edit for a while. It has a few quirks/issues but overall I think it's the best editor that's not Emacs/Vim. I'm keeping an eye on Sublime Text 2 though. As for the link: some terrible choices. ActivePython is an IDE?

One of the nice things about a blog is that you have the author's entire post history to peruse in order to judge bias. Much different than an isolated article in a third-party publication.

I like Python's approach. Anything null, zero, or "empty" is false (+ False of course), but it won't do any type conversion, so you don't get cases like "0" being true. Edit: though I wish the standard library used its configurable truthine

This is just a shitty fluff summary of another post that's currently on the front page. http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2250001 Edit: and the readwriteweb post doesn't even link back to the post by Tav it quotes from. What garbage.

Well, this answers my question: http://blog.serverfault.com/post/stack-exchanges-architectur... About 1/10th Reddit's traffic, but also, I would think, a much lighter usage pattern (i.e. a lot more writes on Reddit, more quickly changing

One more thing in the interest of full disclosure. I actually forgot that AT&T grandfathered in their unlimited plans. They're still available now if you never went off that plan?

I was actually going to add a second paragraph about the throttling but figured my point was uninteresting so I deleted it. I think the throttling is expected. Consumer wireless data plans are intended to handle stuff one is likely to do on

This article seems overly biased. > But above all, Verizon’s data throttling is shady in areas where even AT&T can’t compete. Even when AT&T had unlimited data, the company did not practice throttling, and an independent test sh

In light of the threads lately about how well StackOverflow does with their MS stack, I'm wondering how their traffic compares to Reddit, which runs on OSS/Python + Java.

You must've misread somewhere. The OP said "Why not being restful and using HTTP verbs?" I said "because there are far more commands than HTTP verbs". In other words, this has nothing to do with "the amount of operations you can do with res

I'm personally mad at Doug Cutting for perpetuating Java. Java is a virus. If Lucene and Hadoop were written in C/C++ you'd be able to easily use them from basically any language. Because they're written in Java, it forces the rest of your

Ask Apple, I'd only be speculating at why they didn't redesign their existing product to support it :P But, since what they did for the Verizon iPhone has no bearing on what will appear in the iPhone 5, I don't really understand the point o

I would be very surprised if the iPhone 5 comes in GSM-specific and CDMA-specific models. I'd expect a unified model. I only wonder whether it'll support LTE as well.

I question your assumption that if something is done in 1/2 the lines of code then each line of code is twice as complex. You're equivocating on "complex". Each line may be "more complex" in the sense "does more", but not necessarily more c
