How can this have a copyright and also be GPL? Or maybe a better way of asking it is - what does a copyright even do if you give limitless permission to copy?

I want to make a Discord bot that impersonates all my friends and continues to refine the model as the conversations continue. Basically this [1] post, but with a more modern model and, ideally, reinforcement learning. Seems like this would

Gate pitch is not the same as gate length. The smallest feature size is usually the transistor gate length. In Samsung 14nm processes for example the drawn fin length is in fact 14nm. The actual physical size of the fin is closer to 8nm but

Sort of. Down to around 14nm nodes, maybe lower, the number was the actual minimum length of the transistor gate. Somewhere thereabouts the transistors weren't shrinking as much but they needed the number to go down so it became some r

Wow I would've loved to have something like this. In the last few months I tried reverse engineering a Dell server motherboard (just the power supply interface) and a Lenovo ThinkCentre motherboard (PCI-E riser) and its such a pain to

There are automated tools for generating a netlist from scanned IC layers (nm thick). They're proprietary trade secrets of course, but it's done all the time.

For quick small boards, I don't think you can beat easyeda. They've got a built in community parts library which makes it super easy to whip something together. I made a little adapter to run RCA over ethernet and it took about 15

I would stay away from Eagle. It's definitely a great tool, and it's used by a lot of small business hacker types like Sparkfun, but the licensing is a disaster since it was bought by Autodesk.

I really like the idea of rebasing because it gives you a much easier-to-parse revision history (assuming you enforce good commit messages, structure, etc). The problem I have with it though is early development. The history can be a total

Supposing each conversion is 90% efficient, you're looking at 65.6% overall. If your server is around 300W, running 24/7 (which is what mine was before my power-reduction project), you're looking at 17kWh of waste/wk. Th

I see power management mentioned often, but I'm not convinced. How does centralizing the push service reduce power? Why can't a developer just implement the service in the same way? (if Apple/Google let them) I self-host Goti

Too bad it still completely freezes while downloading emails. The Supernova UI is definitely an improvement but it still has a long way to go... A bit surprised that there aren't really any other strong competitors in the space.

I can't seem to find it, but there was a blog post on HN a while back about how someone set up a proxy to browse Wikipedia by sending and receiving WhatsApp messages. I'm sure you could extend that to be a web proxy.

If you want to get into soldering, do yourself a favor and invest in a good station, iron, and tips. If you want to de-solder, good quality soldering wick is also really important (I use chemtronics). I was lucky enough to snag an old Metca
