History repeating again. Pre-big data, most event processing was done via SQL-92, some processing via custom procedural code, and the rest via DSLs like Drools and Esper. Post big-data, most processing is being done by Spark / Flink SQ

There is bigger market forces that isn't being considered here - namely that the entire database as a service margins have been nearly driving down to zero by AWS. Why do you think firebase had to sellout to Google ? Why did Parse shut
