It doesn't really look like that's what this is, it's just a different way to wire up native UI components. You're still writing Objective C and using Cocoa.

I have to echo this. I really wonder where you got that impression because it's the opposite of both the reputation I hear and my own experience. There are very few applications that I miss from Windows. Most big cross-platform appli

The world is a different place now than it was when those people were in that position, it's hardly a good comparison. Everything moves faster today and the Secretary of State should be able to along with it. Would you be able to be go

It sounds like you aren't very familiar with the actual ask; that's not at all what they are tasked with doing. The FBI wants them to create an operating system that would run entirely from RAM without touching any of the flash me

Gather data, which Apple already does and provides. Not write wholesale operating systems, sign them, and maintain them for only the government to use.

I'd be super interested to know what their backend looks like (at least the new stuff, not WebObjects), I wish they were as open as Facebook with regard to tech. Unfortunately that's probably a wish that will forever be unfulfille

Apple's response addresses almost every point you bring up, so I'm guessing you didn't read it. Which is probably why you're posting with a throwaway account.

You might have an application that uses SQL Server-specific features, and if you have a separate database server cluster now you just have to pay for SQL Server licenses instead both it and Windows Server.

I'd just like to go back and show 15-year-ago me Firebug or Chrome/Firefox's DevTools and inspector. It's pretty stunning how far the tooling has come and what you can do with it.

I think even people that are older sometimes forget how terrible it was to develop with JavaScript before things like Prototype and jQuery came on the scene. Just moving from alert() to console.log() was a revelation.

If it's an effective marketing strategy then what might that indicate about people's opinions regarding the intentions of the US Justice Department?

Right, they are sometimes using it as a marketing advantage, but I don't think "hurting Google" is why they care about encryption/privacy in general or why they are standing up about this court case specifically.

Google does care in some cases, a couple of years ago they started encrypting links between their datacenters because the NSA was snooping on internal Gmail traffic.
