Scala in Vim is quite workable - I will try the quickfix plug-in that I didn't knew about. Something that I find useful is proper ctags extraction for Scala, so here it is: https://github.com/luben/sctags I hope i

My guess is that it is something related the RAID handling in the block layer: I had a corruption on fat32 fs (/boot/efi partition) after upgrading grub-efi on my laptop. It sits on md-raid0 (intel fake raid) I also had multiple c

This is benchmarking Perl-5.8 that was already 3 years old in 2010. With Perl-5.10 there is an optimization for matching alternations (|) that should drastically change the results for the "URI|Email" pattern. In later versions of

Actually yes - perl has a tainted mode (#!/usr/bin/perl -t) that force you to sanitize every input from the outside world. It does not do the work for you because it is agnostic to semantics (escaping for shell is different t

I was considering Go for some project of mine but the lack of generics turned me away because the project needed to do some heavy numeric computations over custom containers (sparse matrices). Now days I think that adding generics to Go wil

JavaScript is not homoiconic - JavaScript code could not be expressed as JavaScript data structure. That's the main point. If you could express your code as a data structure of the same language you can write programs to modify your pr

There is something similar in aws. The main difference is that it is distributed and can query and aggregate across clusters of thousands machines. Also I think it is not built on sqlite but implements new db engine.

I guess because of the learning curve - everybody already knows SQL and the time spent to create SQL parser is balanced by the time of thousands people not needing to learn some new (most of the time badly designed, look to example MongoDB)

It looks most of the successful MPP analytic databases are based on PostgreSQL (e.g. Greenplum, Redshift). It's sad to see that InfiniDB could not make MySQL work for them reliably.

Unit type is completely different concept in the functional languages. It does not track units and measures.
