jexcel is great, it has more features (sorting, formulas, colors, etc)... but those same features are not very performant with many (>1000) rows since each cell is a html table cell. datagridxl looks promising if you need to display lots

I haven't dug very deeply, but from what i can tell google sheets also uses a canvas too and it works with screen-readers somehow.

I love unusual discoveries like this. Reminds me of watching the Star Trek TNG episode about silicon-based lifeforms as a kid and wishing real-life had more strange discoveries like that.

It's used as a generic term in keyboard events to refer to ⌘ on Mac and CTRL on PC, it's rare to see that word used outside of code though.

To the author: This site has major scrolling issues on Mac Safari in certain dimensions. For example, my window width is at 1347px and when I scroll quickly the layout goes crazy and everything flashes in different locations until the scrol

Data in cloud and probably on the device you're using right now is mainly only encrypted while sitting on the disk and when bouncing around the net. The difference here is that the data is also encrypted throughout its life - while in

PSA: The 80k price tag is the sticker price. The actual average cost of Harvard is < 15k when you account for aid and parents bargaining down the price. So please try to negotiate the price if you are actually considering paying 80k.

So very sad to lose a hero, I was lucky to be crammed right next to him at Pershing Square in a very crowded group at the March for Science in Downtown Los Angeles a couple years ago. He was very friendly, I was starstruck. I wish I could h

You don't support Apple users on your website? You don't bother to fix breaking issues for any Apple device? I'm genuinely curious to know what industry you work in since that seems like a huge segment of visitors.

Maybe related — there was a Chrome bug regression that was recently fixed that rendered the thickness of font-sizes above a certain threshold incorrectly, large bold text wouldn't be bolded - https://bugs.chromium.org/p

Sounds nice, I like the minimalist look. But I think it would be a giant leap if the music was somehow related to what is being typed. Also it took a while to load, it could use a loading progress indicator — I thought it was broken and was

Thanks for this context, was very confused about what RStudio did. And was even more confused why datacamp considers RStudio a competitor... still don't think it makes sense but now I understand their motivations.

This is a classic chicken and egg dilemma. Can an egg incubate other eggs before it's a chicken?

When I listen to music sometimes I start to taste a tanginess or sweetness in my mouth. Much the same way my mouth starts to salivate and feel strange when I imagine eating a sour lemon. I think that's pretty common? Is that related to

People are motivated to learn and build what inspires them. Some started web dev because they wanted to make the type of projects they saw in chrome experiments that only run on the latest version of Chrome. Some people see very complex SPA

Maybe they are thinking of services like firebase where much of the traditional server logic is now handled in the same js libraries that the frontend uses? But I'm also not sure what exactly the author is referring to.

That's not pedantic, it's a good comment. I had the same thought when reading the article and wondered if others were wondering the same.

You should read The Phoenix Project by Gene Kim, you basically described it's premise. It's a pretty good novel that describes how DevOps practices can help a company dig itself out of the hole you describe.

I'm not a great software engineer, but I find engineering a great tool to learn new subjects. For example I built a sheet music analyzer in the browser to learn music theory and it forced me to really understand the subject matter. I w

I really enjoy nodes for tasks that require immediate visual or audio feedback - making shaders in Blender, designing waveforms in Max, etc. But there are tasks that I find dead simple when done with code, such as translating a math formula
