The "gives start fund cash to charity" title is just great marketing (like the campaign itself.) - Corporations get tax deductions for donations to nonprofits too, so this won't cost the full 150k. And this will get far more than 15k signup

That's definitely not the case. This isn't your usual shareholder meeting. 40,000 shareholders (I'd call many of them "fans", really) showed up last year and many of them have more enthusiasm than wealth. You can get tickets just by holding

I googled "sharpen a knife" yesterday early afternoon and I'm pretty sure I got ehow high on the front page. Now it's halfway down the second page. Appropriately, the summary for eHow is: "on 3/31/2009 This article provides a high level ove

I think the real issue isn't whether or not founders are "worth" 10x or 100x or 1000x the 10th employee (arguable, no real answer) but whether the extreme variance that exists in early startup employee equity is fair. I once surveyed severa

Interesting factoid that might affect your voting... anyone know more about how Watson's confidence level factors into its betting? Watson has an “Achilles heel,” because its betting is restricted to its confidence level, according to “Fina

I average 40 credit card transactions per month, or about $20/month -> $240/year under SwipeGood's average-50-cents-to-charity-per-swipe model. Assuming that's typical, since the average American household donates approx. $1000/year, a

I've talked to at least a dozen people who moved into SF in the last 16 months and every one of them used Padmapper, including me. It's great. If Craigslist ever made acquisitions... or added features... this would/should be at the top of t

Wow, did the Ask HN on "what is the YC W11 social network startup that's hiring called" get deleted? There were at least a dozen comments on it last night, it was high up the front page, and now I can't find it.

Lots of gems in here. One humorously self-effacing anecdote: "At that time we knew that a talented engineer in a tough to get tech was worth about $1.5 million per head. Thus, I knew with relative assurance that since we were going to hire

Nobody's mentioned this yet, so: this is particularly notable because it's "Mitch Kapor's startup" (famous for Lotus 1-2-3). Used to be called Foxmarks.

Lots of shitting on Dave McClure from people who've never met him. If you had a friend who was a great guy but happened to have a ridiculous online writing voice, and terrible taste in fonts, you wouldn't hate on him for it. The few times I
