Putting data into cold storage, spinning up multiple flexible access points with different datasets... Sounds like what Snowflake is doing right? I don‘t really use it but looks neat from the outside. May be nice to bring some of that to OL

Is it a Paradox of Tolerance type reasoning that capital O Open Source people suddenly are not at all about freedom when someone is releasing code under a new, non OSI license (elastic, this)? Or is it honestly all about the term Open Sourc

I know you didn‘t mean this literally but the idea of apple doing a kickstarter is hilarious. It would be the logical conclusion of established, VC backed companies like ROLI doing them.

I do believe this happens, but I have yet to read a book that looks even reasonably typeset on Apple Books on a phone with anything larger than default. I know a PDF can‘t do that either, but that‘s the promise of these formats right? Betwe

Are web pages/archives really less fixed than PDFs if you don‘t want want them to be? I mean I know they are in practice, but I don‘t see why you couldn‘t use them as a fixed document format. Some contracts may need to be upheld betwee

I would be interested in having those numbers * view count. Facebook will probably still come out on top, but I expect the difference to narrow. I‘m not sure if that makes it much more harmful but important for the comparison.

A smart, or at least nice, move for github wpuld be to provide a one-click actions migration at least for the simple travis configs that the majority of projects use.

There‘s probably no one who has gone to the trouble of porting a browser engine for only the sake of running on jailbroken devices.

Seems unlikely apple would sell their chips and also that cloud providers would buy them instead of doing the same thing apple does, and design their own. That is what Amazon is doing with Gravitron, isn't it?

quick tip: if you use the system share button to copy the url, you get the real one. You can also take advantage of this with an app like Opener to navigate to the real page in the cases where the amp site is in such a broken state that you

I have the same experience: unbelievably broken on iOS. It just has to be better on android because somehow their own engineers have to use it day to day and ship it in good conscience at the same time, right?

To me, completely breaking down when I use the very normal browser feature "pinch to zoom" on iOS has always seemed wild. I have no idea how they get away with this.

To me, that is what it means: You shouldn‘t make classes. Only if you are using a component framework or something that works like it though. Otherwise you should make semantic-style classes, yeah. It‘s ad-hoc because you can not predict wh

It does. Using inline style attributes is basically a good idea when using a component framework, except for missing features and questionable performance. Tailwind solves that. There is an influential presentation from, i think, someone on

Basically, these concerns are split in half now, between components and design systems. In my opinion tailwind works out best if you use components or use template partials in a component style. In that case, there won‘t be that many places

Yes that is 100% what it is. Using theme-ui or tailwind is just a switch of technology and syntax. The development style and thinking is the same.

I haven‘t even tried the interactive parts but I want to say that just the messaging and presentation flow is spot on. I‘m 50/50 between tailwind and theme-ui style tools (which are really more similar than not). Just how well you can

Netflix consumption is 90% from recommendations page right? So they could segregate every side into their own little recommendation bubble, if they have the content range for it. Seems to work for youtube.

I don‘t know, like, average SPA stuff, a lot of React. I just considered what the network tab actually is and I have of course used it before, to work on the loading speed of sites, but haven‘t done that for a while. The only performance wo

As a daily user of the safari devtools, I have to disagree I don‘t have much need for the Network tab, so maybe that’s why. They handle the basics very well for me, with a much better interface (IMHO) than chrome tools. I really wish they d

I think if battery/data even becomes a concern, you have already put too much data into config and probably need a database? Does anyone really care about a couple hundred KB (at most) these days? Or am I underestimating the config siz

It’s really not so hard to roll yourself IF you don’t need a web interface. In my GraphQL api I have a resolver called appConfig. That enables me to fetch the config I need for a screen in the same request as the data and to reuse any cachi

Speaking for me, a 200 ms delay would be too much when values are fetched on demand. And I assume it‘s higher outside the US? Imagining a mobile app, adding a 200ms delay to a screen transition that would otherwise not fetch data would not
