Ironically the site design is 90s-browser friendly (maybe with tables vs. divs) but the new JS features are not. That reminds me, I want to browse the site on lynx and see what happens...

Great feedback, thanks! The examples should probably load on either hover (preview) or click (load). Currently it takes you off the example list and to a standalone calc, which is confusing. (There are so many usability issues you discover

Thanks! I'm trying to make the imgur/pastebin of calcs. Whip something up on a forum (ahem) and share it in seconds. Let people try and share their own scenarios.

Hah, I just finished a flat redesign from mid-2000s skeuomorphic interface. Redoing the logo / favicons is that last thing...

Found and fixed the bug, should be working now. (For what it's worth, I was using fat arrow functions in javascript, which aren't supported in all browsers yet. Forgot to compile it down to ES2015.)

Ack, I've seen rendering issues on certain browsers. Thanks for the version number, it's really helpful for debugging.

Thanks! BetterExplained started as a collection of notes on my university website: Sadly after a decade the CS department shut down my alumni account :(. But I have a cached backup here: https://web.archive.org/web/2015

Shameless plug, I just launched an overhaul to a side project today ( https://instacalc.com ). The biggest impetus was having a friend using the old version who pinged me with some feature requests. It reminded me that the service

Yep, exactly. I prefer print for books I intend to refer to often. (I use createspace to turn the ebook to print on demand. With Softcover & LaTeX, you can get print-quality PDFs, best of both worlds.) Focusing on the ebook version firs

This is a huge reason I preferred to self-publish. I have a math book that is 12-chapters (~90 pages total), written in a compact, friendly style I prefer. There are too many incentives to pad out your writing when you are trying to fill ph

Exactly. Even if teaching or reasoning from first principles, you would explain them via analogies, diagrams, examples, etc. Teaching from first principles solely from the technical definition wouldn't be very pleasant for most.

Kalid from BetterExplained here, it's awesome to hear the approach is working for you. I had very similar reservations, I could derive many results (like a robot) but had little intuition behind e, i, pi, radians, etc. (let alone how t

I think that's what he meant; round up (not down) because the next correction term in the series is positive. 72 is better (mentally) than 70 or 74 because it has more divisors.
