I came in this thread to say exactly this. The value of HN is the thoughtfulness and conscious submissions people make to this site. I'd hate to imagine what would appear here if people just had to click a button in between the +1 and the F

Huge news. One can expect an overwhelming wave of punditry about this move, but it'll be interesting to read their official press release and what his role will be moving forward. Surely he'll still be the arbiter of taste until he's dead?

This is what I was looking for in this thread, so thank you. The email left me concerned of the transition and what it would mean for uptime of websites, but if it's literally just a change of billing, branding, and control panel, why are t

This post perfectly frames why I pushed the organization I work for to move from ASP.NET to Rails / Sinatra for our web development.

Good question. What's wrong with serious police, detective, or spy work in these extreme edge cases where encrypted communication is a crucial piece of evidence? This seems incredibly lazy and irresponsible.

Their report only analyzes the criticality of Windows-based exploits, and leaves Oracle and Apple bugs' severity undefined. I can't find anywhere on Secunia's website that they make a big deal out of this though, so I'm going to chock it up

So you purchased a standard, no-frills car that provides full technical accessibility and used that to make unnecessary modifications to it. Then, you used said tweaked automobile as an example of opaque car design in a discussion about iPa

I entirely disagree. Enthusiast cars are still based around horsepower, handling, and the "joy of the ride", whereas modern cars are using increasingly smaller yet more efficient motors that, while not as exciting, get out of your way and s

If there's one thing I've learned from Apple, it's that innovation within a price point makes happy, comfortable customers. It's a scary precedent to set by saying that every new feature Zendesk adds, they're going to charge you for. Innova

This is a lie that I think is told in every IKEA showroom. 300 square feet is rather functional given the space is well laid out i.e. long and narrow without much obstructing the walls. The trouble is, it's difficult to find an ideal small

What you're describing is personal choice to not use social networks as a form of primary communication. I know too many people in Portland to keep in touch with them all in person, via phone, or email, but Facebook is a great way to see th
