Actually, this prompted me to look up the funders of OpenAI: - Sam Altman - Greg Brockman - Reid Hoffman - Jessica Livingston - Elon Musk - Peter Thiel Useful information in interpreting the mission statement, I think.

Does anyone else find it strange that there is no real-world data in these notebooks? It's all simulations or abstract problems. This gives me the sense, personally, that economists aren't interested in making accurate predictions

I would love to pay money (or do some sort of proof-of-work hashing) rather than solve Google's infuriating, privacy-hostile CAPTCHAs. I rather suspect that Google, as an advertising and consumer-surveillance firm, gets rather a lot

I'm not sure the existence of alternatives, advertised through Twitter, is much of a comfort here. The integrity of the domain name system shouldn't depend on someone having a well-known twitter account that can advertise alternat

IPFS has perhaps 2,000 times the resources ($) of dat. (Raised via the filecoin sale.) Surely that must count for a little.

I broadly agree with this. My sense is that KYC hurts individuals who value their privacy and maybe catches some mid-level crooks. The big criminals bypass it without much difficulty. The recent case of Dankse Bank confirmed my opinions abo

I think YUL has some of the highest airport fees for any major North American city. For example, there's an "Airport Improvement Fee" of 30 CAD (on every flight) https://www.aircanada.com/us/en/aco&#

Can you clarify this last statement? Surely it's a question of which geographic nation-state you plan on working in. Not all of us live or want to live in North America.

Let's not forget that these fake reviews are being paid for. That's clearly better than non-paid-for fake reviews. That is, there's some friction for the malicious actors. Imagine how much less spam we would have if it cost

This is, more or less, the solution advocated by the law professor James Boyle, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Boyle_(academic) He wrote a good book, The Public Domain: Enclosing the Commons of the Mind (2008), wh

I've been searching for a self-hosted feed reader for some time. Looks like Nextcloud News is unmaintained. Is it still worth looking into? (Java is a step too far, so I'll pass on Fiets.)

Comparing 2 Yubico Security Keys to the Titan Security Key pack is the correct comparison. Looks like the Titan Security Key (USB) has NFC and the Yubico Security Key does not. And the Titan Security pack has two adapters. I call it a draw.
