I think that there are many things done in the same vein with the intent of alleviating minority's struggles due to racism that do more to promote the concept of racism than not. I'm not confusing equality with uniformity, although it's har

I absolutely think that should be discussed. I don't doubt that there are some consequences of that, but I don't think they're nearly as extreme as some people paint them to be. Edit: I don't think that anything should be barred from discus

Could you point me at some studies that suggest that there are intrinsic things about men and women that would make it more likely for women to not be capable of participating in a startup in their 20s? I don't claim that the male and fem

It could be true, and if it is then we need to think about equality in a different manner, I suppose. I strongly suspect that the vast majority of the differences are cultural in nature -- in fact I suspect that patterns exposed through cul

I'm sympathetic to a cause here, but I can't help but think that things like this might do more to promote sexism than not. I think the idea that women are somehow less capable of doing the "3-months in Silicon Valley" is harmful. I think t

I figure they have the axe of "I used this for a while, and really grew to hate it when I compared it to these other things I used" to grind. Sometimes the technologies you use just make you want to get something off your chest, you know?

Why don't companies just hire people after a quick discussion at 50% salary for the maximum of four months and see how they do. Having an incompetent (or malicious even) developer on your team for four months is likely to cost your compan

While this is true, isn't quite unlikely? Why not just invest the time into becoming a /good/ developer. It might be unlikely for people applying to google, but I can attest that people will memorize what they think are details that will

I could totally see asking someone that question if they said that they were intimately familiar with some distro or another. Outside of that context, it seems like a really bad question. Maybe there was another purpose to the question (l

I'm of the opinion that as far as information being free goes, it's not going to go away. It's possible that it will for the vast majority of people -- but the vast majority of people aren't using the internet as an educational tool. The pe

I too sometimes have bouts of suicidal ideation. When I was younger, they were much worse/more frequent than they are now. In general, the realization that death is, at least currently, inevitable has helped me deal with them. If your suici

In my opinion, there really aren't too many high-quality tech blogs (or maybe there are, and I'm just not aware of them). Steve's stuff is lengthy -- but it's also not posted incredibly often (he's not a career blogger), and I have yet to r
