Just FYI, there are (at least in the US) multiple meanings of "social libertarian". Most people I know that would use that label for themselves are closer to being a classical anarchist or socialist, and do not vote Republican.

No, much worse than the small disturbance of 2000. Compare the graphs here ( http://electoral-vote.com/evp2008/Pres/ec_graph-2008.html ), particularly the ones that leave out the "barely" states. People are much less politically apathet

Perhaps, but it's probably true. I don't know about other people, but I've been able to identify (at least I think I have been able to) some of the parts of my thought process that do pattern-matching through meditation. It's a very strange

Bug: It doesn't correctly handle sites on different ports than 80 (I'm guessing). http://packagedepends.homelinux.org:8080 returns a page for the University of Southhampton, not my (very) simple webapp. Great app though.

I'm going to hold off a bit before upgrading. What I run on my laptop, while having Ubuntu as a base, ends it's similarity to the Ubuntu defaults there. There's not much in this release that helps me out a bunch, may as well let some bugs /

I don't see how this list is going to be helping a "beginner" at all. It's "89" items that all boil down to "Read code, write code, study techniques for abstraction", which in turn boils down (roughly) to "practice" - which is the same thin

This is my favorite piece that Steve has written so far (also, note the "part 1"). While not on the usual subject matter, this was a beautifully written piece that makes a point on multiple levels - and is probably appreciable by people out

That is a tough spot. I don't use RoR, so I can't offer much advice other than opening a ticket on your preferred methods bug tracker, or creating a patch - assuming they're open source and you're willing / able to do so.

I wasn't necessarily saying you should rip anything out of your system. I haven't examined it, nor am I an expert on security (encryption, particularly is a rather complicated area filled with implementations with very subtle flaws, possi

Perhaps that doesn't make it a "shit password", but it certainly is a "shit password policy". Regardless, you can't realistically force your users to not have a "shit password policy". What you can do, however, is make sure that your app

Be picky about what projects you accept, and don't let your clients walk all over you. There's definitely a balance that has to be found there though.

As an aside, there are multiple popular uses of the word "work" - I tend to use "activity that I do (or am obliged through contract to do) that I am compensated at least partially by money" Work, in the way I use it, neither excludes or inc

I have this problem every so often; you're not alone. A few weeks ago I don't think I did any meaningful work for an entire week straight. I just screwed around each day, telling myself that the next day would be "super hardcore work day"

I would suggest sliding div#Search down for options, or maybe just adding a "expand" button (on http://new.youintern.com/search/filter ) for showing the content of the list-items corresponding to search (employers|internships|reviews)? Aft
