Maybe I just have different needs. All I ever want is to go in, pick an album or two, and hit play. I also use different hardware but typically it's consistent across hardware with similar number of buttons so I doubt that's much

I _still_ use Rockbox. The UI and performance is just really good. Probably doesn't hurt that it was one of the first pieces of software I ever contributed to (I only wrote a plugin/game, but it was still extremely satisfying), so

When you have no concept of insects being able to make that much noise, the brian just maps it to something else. When you're familiar with them, you can pick out the patterns in the frequencies and the ebb and flow, when you're f

Science proves some things. You can prove that something is possible by demonstrating it or with a good enough model even.

That would get them a lot of bad press and many people would leave. It might even get AGs attention. If they just do ambiguous annoying things, that's safer for them.

No. A better language would make things safer for the average dev. You don't give the new guy at work the saw with all of the safety features removed. Or maybe you do, but you're not doing it for his benefit at least.

I have read it. Yeah it is a better book, but there's few that measure up. Dune isn't as bad as you imply IMO. To each their own though. It probably helped that I read Dune for the first time when I was young.

There's few drugs as well studied as cannabis. Who cares if a particular drug company hasn't produced a list of side effects in the usual form? Those lists don't tend to be terribly reliable anyway. > Last I heard pot has

There is no progress there. The people saying these things are coming up with their plan (do nothing) and then generating a rationale to match. Humans have a great capacity to rationalize, they won't ever run out of excuses.

If you're 2d or so you can beat pros at 6 stones. Is katago more beatable than that? I know it's not amazing at high handicap, but I wouldn't think so.

At Go? Humans cannot win anymore, the AIs are _very_ good. Katago can give handicap stones to pros and win. It's as much better than pros as pros are better than unserious amateurs. It's not even a matter of compute power, katago

Extra passive cooling on a building has more immediate local effects, namely if my house is cooler I don't have to run the A/C as much. A/C is a _huge_ power suck, so avoiding even a little is huge.

Planting a forest is carbon neutral after it reaches maturity, in a ~few years. It reaches an equilibrium and stops net removal of CO2. If you want nature to do it you need to engineer some way for the carbon to disappear basically forever.
