Failing to protect and targeting is widely different, and it is not in good faith to claim the latter without evidence.

So you don’t think there is a difference between a huge front across a country, and a tiny blob of very densely packed land, with a huge population density? Just something as simple as the chance of a bomb exploding near you is significantl

That’s also true of a GCd language though.

Besides preventing data races (but not other kinds of race conditions), it is not at all unique. Haskell, OCaml, Scala, F# all have similarly strong type systems.

Scala is an absolutely small language. It is just very expressive, but its complexity is quite different than, say, Cpp’s, which has many features.

You are generally right, but Clojure is a bad example, it is quite deliberately a “hosted” language, that can and does have many implementations for different platforms, e.g. ClojureScript.

You wrote: > in C the program is more liable to simply crash I simply disagree with this statement, as silent failure is also very common in case of C, which is probably the worst option. (Especially that it may cause memory safety issue

So it is worse, therefore it is better? Exceptions are exceptionally good at error handling - they always do the correct default (bubbling up if not handled, bringing a stacktrace with them, and by default they auto-unwrap the correct retu

But then why not use Scala, OCaml, Haskell, etc? Rust is only interesting and novel that it can target the very niche area where GCs are not generally allowed.

So you are comparing a feature-packed enterprise framework with a raw http server ping-ponging hello world? Also, what even does the last line mean? Go in general is significantly more verbose than Java.

Java’s GC is just incomparably better, literally every research on the topic is written for Java. Though that’s true that without value types, Java does rely slightly more on it.

You can’t generally make it a strictly compile-time feature, as far as I know. You do need what constitutes to overflow checks, basically.

I can only talk about Gnome wayland with NixOS, but they generally don’t do anything too wild with the configs, and since they have quite bleeding edge packages, it usually works quite well, once it packaged.

That’s like, your opinion. I do think that on a laptop, GNOME is probably the best environment to use, out of any OS.

Well, the applications are not the same as the desktop environment. You can install Konsole, Dolphin, etc on gnome as well.

Well, that’s true. Though then it is pretty similar to the “build tool” problem, which is actually an interesting parallel :D Nonetheless, I do think that big limitations at most places, with optional, explicit escape hatches is a good patt

I mean, that’s how it works in Java as well (other threads keep running), but you are not much helped if your “critical business logic” deadlocked and doesn’t do its job. Though I guess you can try restarting it with Erlang.

I don’t think deadlock free is possible without some very serious limitations. Like not even share-nothing, communicate via messages only is safe from deadlocks.
