You can clone the repo, audit the code, then host it yourself if you want to: https://github.com/electronicwhisper/recursive-drawing/tree/...

You'd be amazed at the percentage of people who fail this test. I can't say I have interviewed many people, but even seeing one or two people fail this test for a technical role is mind-boggling.

For me, a major pain point about IRC is that I, as a user, need to use a bouncer in order to not miss messages. And even then, you still risk missing some messages if the bouncer needs to disconnect from the IRC server (e.g. due to update

I don’t miss Facebook. I just weaned myself off Facebook about a week or two ago. I realised that I needed to get off Facebook because it made me feel depressed. When I was on Facebook, I would look at the feed and become poignantly aware o

The release was after Windows 95, but I thought they had those modern OS features already working long before that?

BeOS, a modern operating system that supported SMP, preemptive multitasking, and a journaling file system waaaaay before Windows 95 was even released.

From practical and philosophical points of view, if the container and its cargo are stuck at the bottom of the sea forever, is it really a problem? Of course, I'm aware that random man-made things polluting the oceans is a bad thing

Agreed. Anybody who has read Neil Postman and Aldus Huxley will probably agree, too. In fact, I suspect that even Hacker News and this very story itself (now I'm getting meta) are mostly the same: interesting, but often doesn't ha

Oh, so you mean that on 32-bit Windows, processes (can) have an address space that is smaller than the sum of physical RAM + page file? I didn't know that. It makes sense then.

In Chinese we have a saying: 「只許州官放火,不許百姓點燈。」 "Only state officials are allowed to commit arson; the populace is not allowed to light a lamp ." "lamp" as in "oil lamp" or "candle" in general.

I see. That starts to make sense if you explain it that way. Users who don't think about the multiprocessing model will just see fewer dead tabs when a FF process crashes, and that could feel like "fewer crashes".

I don't quite understand how that can be possible. At the end of the day, you're still aiming to load, in FF 66, just as many tabs as in FF pre-66. FF's total memory usage should be about the same whether you're using 4

Thanks! While that post addresses the reason why we can double the number of processes, I think I'm still missing the reason why we should double the number of processes (aside from performance reasons). I mean, the release notes m

Not sure if the tab search is entirely new or simply made more accessible in FF 66, but it certainly seems to make the All Tabs Helper add-on mostly obsolete for me now.

There’s maybe a billion-dollar opportunity there: maybe someone could invent a hybrid screen that switches from (O)LED to e-ink mode under bright lighting conditions.
