There’s a company called GitStart (previously known as Murcul). They’re from YC S19. I think they mostly hire people to work remotely. They provide software development service. I’m using their service right now. They seem to provide good m

This is not the first time that I hear Zed Shaw’s Learn X the Hard Way is bad. E.g. Learn C The Hard Way is so bad that it’s on the list of stuff to avoid on iso-9899.info, the most popular C wiki [1]. Experts in the #c channel on Freenode

This also reminds me of the post Jon Skeet wrote about using UTC: https://codeblog.jonskeet.uk/2019/03/27/storing-utc-is-not-a... Also discussed on HN back in the days: https://news.ycombinator.com

When I use the "full" timezone name like "America/New_York", how does libc resolve the ambiguity during the extra hour of the transition from daylight saving time to standard time?

This comment hits the nail right on the head. What is wrong with web dev? Why is it perceived not ok to be "stuck in 2015"? I've never seen so much churn and turnover in any other single layer of a tech stack.

Oh, I don’t actually “need” to have them. They are just nice-to-haves. Really low priority among my “Ways to Spend/Waste My Money”, more like “Doodads I Might Buy One Day If I Have Waaay Too Much Money”. Establishing this list at least

What I do is I make a list of vintage grail watches that I'm interested in, and I limit myself to those and stop looking at other ones. (Same thing with fountain pens.) Right now these are missing from my collection: - Seiko SCVF-009 &

Have you tried calibre? It’s a proper ebook reader app that allows you to define custom dictionary URL patterns.

I know I’m getting old when Nintendo GameCube is considered vintage. I'm 38 now with some gray hair. The GameCube came out when I was in high school. P.S. The emulation of curved CRT in these paper models is a really nice touch.

It would be nice to add benchmarks to the exercises. E.g. how many push ups in a row (in a specific timespan, at a certain pace) a healthy person is expected to be able to do.

Interesting. Does that make it kinda midway between "pure" MarkDown and reStructuredText? As in, it's a bit more powerful than pure MarkDown, but still lighter to use than reStructuredText? I mean, if you don't mind summ

I'm wondering what impact COVID might have on this. On the one hand, some people have reduced income during the pandemic, so they don't buy less brand-new first-hand stuff. On the other hand, some people might become more wary of

There are no customers. If you’re not paying for it, you’re not a customer: you’re the product. Whatever WhatsApp/Facebook do to “take care” of the “customers” is just like pig farmers taking care of pigs.

The grand-parent comment is problematic for anybody who has read enough Chomsky and remembered the lessons. One needs to define “America” for that comment to be meaningful. Or rather, one should recognize that there is not one “America”.

Jon Skeet would implement `sloc` in -1 bytes to begin with, and still fix the regex heuristics so that none of the posted solutions in that code golf works. ;)
