The grand-parent comment is problematic for anybody who has read enough Chomsky and remembered the lessons. One needs to define “America” for that comment to be meaningful. Or rather, one should recognize that there is not one “America”. We need to think in terms of classes: the 1%, the other 9%, and the rest. Or even more drastically: the 0.1% and the rest.
