Yeah, a wise decision by our government indeed. However, one of the major reasons Vkontakte is popular is due to it being filled with illegal music and video content without bothering to remove it, at least most people I know amongst its st

Ukraine is of course no major market for Facebook, but it's a good example that doesn't match what you describe at all. In Ukraine, Facebook is the place where you follow top journalists, anti-corruption people, activists, and oth

I’ve used Raspberry Pi to build an always-on midi recorder for my electric piano (in Rust), which was super useful. Having to have a power supply is the ugliest part, I would say, otherwise it has been a fantastic help.

There is a wonderful episode of DarkHorse Podcast with Michael Mew explaining how gum can help developing otherwise-degrading-due-to-soft-food chewing muscles and to avoiding the need for braces ultimately.

Ports let you communicate with Elm from pure js, for example here’s the cli wrapper for node https://github.com/elm-in-elm/compiler/blob/master/cli/index...

I always wondered why could you not add a note to someone else’s email in gmail to make it searchable. Would allow you to make gmail UI even simpler and in vein with article's claims too.

My personal outcome on this is that I am afraid to touch React after some time or some number of other devs were working on the codebase, while with Elm I’m not afraid to take over a large codebase that was written by someone else. This is

Events are always serializeable, inspectable, and can be rewinded backward/forward in Elm. It is indeed producing a lot of boilerplate from my experience, but there is a certain complexity guarantee that comes with it in terms of keepi

My favourite three compared to years of Haskell experience are: - runtime predictability. Our async high-load programs are already complex, and having a much more predictable runtime (no GC) makes things feel much more straightforward - lac

Apologies for a stupid question, but how can you roll a dice without using any energy yourself? Or is it meant to work in some model where there is no such thing as energy (as opposed to the one when you need to lift it)

Nothing to do with laziness. It just means you cannot accidentally call blocking (sync) operation from a lightweight (async) thread and block a whole bunch of other lightweight threads like in Rust, C#, or other languages with explicit “asy

I don’t know how Swift works, but from my Haskell experience, if your language needs async/await —- it’s already failing. Everything is async in Haskell, so you don’t need to think about it, and cannot accidentally make a mistake by bl

To me, this is the same concern that tmpfile api is providing. Either remove the temp file/dir api or extend it with useful stuff.

I’ve batte-tested Elm on many projects at this point. It has its quirks, but it’s great. The language is so simple and its compilers so small that I’m not really afraid of the bus-factor. Worst case — I’d fork the compiler and apply the fix

What I would love to see is an expiration mechanism for files, e.g. you create a file that will get cleaned up in an hour. Would simplify my life on multiple occasions.

Yes, but how much would such a reform cost and is it even possible with only money? Being effective means counting how much good you’re doing per one dollar.

My solution is tmux. I’m using white status line with C-z prefix on localhost, and green status line with prefix M-z on servers. This way I can reuse my finger memory, be equally productive on macOS, local Linux, remote Linux.

I don’t think it has anything to do with racism, even more, I suspect it has more to do with the product (not launching podcasts in Ukraine till they have moderation, experience curation and such) than business. The answer is simple: think
