You could probably wire something up in JS to handle it with reduced timeouts, e.g. an AJAX call that automatically fails after 50-100ms and proceeds to load the local version.

I think the idea is that hosts like Google (and ostensibly, Mircosoft) are going to have availability that far exceeds your run-of-the-mill website. Those big hosts generally are going to provide five 9's (or more) availability, whereas %yo

Do note, and I'm not sure if this differs from what you're referring to, but that the link was never even posted to the site; rather, it was placed into a chat box but never sent. Small difference but I think it's an interesting point. >

An interesting experiment is that if you have FB on your smartphone, you can use the "Find Friends" feature to dig up all sorts of profiles for the contacts on your phone. I think it uses a combination of phone #'s and email addys from GMai

I think it's due to poor management of the product and its release. From my experience, Vista was hated due to very poor driver support, the ever-annoying UAC, and the fact that the new Aero UI (along with misc. other system services) took

Not sure how much profit it'd be able to squeeze out of the IR thermometer[1] market, which are already in fairly common use (the building maintenance people at work use them) and it looks like you can get one for as little as $25. 1. htt

Aye, perhaps it's my perception then, because I've been seeing lots of awesome code out there recently. There used to be a few exciting JS projects, though many of them were redundant in some ways, and they were still fairly basic by today'

It may only mention libraries in passing, but I seemed to remember that many of the techniques were used in jQuery (where applicable). I don't mean any offense by relating that to memoirs; rather, it was very helpful to see many of your exa

Considering the date, it seems as if it might've been pushed out the door to satisfy contractual obligations. I'm not sure just how relevant it will be, now that the JS ecosystem has exploded -- seriously, 4 years is _eons_ in the JS world,
