To be honest, this looks a lot more like a script to set up your preferred environment, not a minimal i3 install. It includes a lot of packages like Firefox, docker, fish, etc that have nothing to do with i3.

Very cool. Just a suggestion for the demos in the README though. Maybe have the code shown statically, then a gif of the GUI. Watching all the typing gets long when I just want to see the resulting GUI.

I agree. Or at least I used to! I set up a server a few years ago running NixOS and it required a steep learning curve, but it seemed worthwhile at the time. Fast forward to today and I want to add a new service on the server and I'

Where is the cutoff between "way too many deaths" and not too many deaths? I don't mean to be glib, but it is an important question that needs to be weighed against destroying all of our economic institutions.

I agree. I haven't found anything that compares to the old Weather Underground app's plot of weather data. It was such a brilliant way to convey so much data quickly and clearly. After finding no substitutes, I started making my

This is interesting and a fun link between statistical mechanics and observed income and wealth inequality. But I think the statistics chosen to compare to the real world are a little cherry picked? The wealth distribution matches, but in

I believe it was posted here and upvoted so that people can mock it. Either way, this is not the type of thing I come to HN for.

A similar, but different, concept that I've seen is "slow computing." It also involves the use of terminal applications over GUIs but with the goal of having an environment that changes less often, is easier to investigate a

Does anyone happen to know if there is an Apple music terminal client now that they have an official web UI? A quick search did not reveal anything.

I love new note taking and TODO apps, but Docker, Tomcat, Java, Postgres, etc for a minimalist web app? Seems overkill.

I have been thinking a bit about the anti-competitive effects of Google's behavior in the email space. It is something I'd like to research further. One interesting part of the research would be looking at email provider market

It looks like you get a $30 reward for every twelve books. You can only use the reward on orders under $30, and if your order is less than $30, you lose the difference.

Thanks for the pointer to the book. For others interested, the authors are Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt. For what its worth, I agree that parents are overprotective to the point that it hurts children's development. I let my kid

Never mind that far less kids go missing today than 20 years ago and there's much less chance of them being hit by a car, circumstances are such today that parents are more paranoid than ever. One could easily take those statistics a

A little bit of background that might be helpful-- Shareholders that meet pretty minimal criteria are eligible to include a proposal on the proxy statement and to be voted on at a company's annual meeting. As part of this, the shareho

Interesting link, thank you. They mention that the debris is spread out over three miles of shallow water. I don't know anything about aviation, but it seems like this would suggest that the plane broke apart above ground.

I thought there was an income limit for contributing to a Roth IRA? I'm guessing all of their employees with access to the Medallion fund would be above that limit. I must be missing something.
