Thanks. You're reply gave me a boost of inspiration. I'm working now to learn more of the Math and modeling side of things, but I know it's going to be a _long_ hard road. Thanks for the link, that site seems to have some

I'm partway through the ML class on Coursera and have only recently rekindled my interest in Math. However, my background is in Accounting (undergrad and did a full years as an accountant), and Software Engineering (masters in SE and

Edit to my own thread - I actually did go back to college for a Master's in Software Engineering. It was neither quick nor easy for me, but in the end I did get a degree and have had a pretty successful career for some years now. How

Can I ask how you got started in the field? I actually began my career in Accounting (my undergrad is in it), and still find the world of finance pretty interesting. Somewhere along the line I ended up in Engineering and have been a Softw

Thanks for sharing that link, as I've never seen this Manifesto before. This puts into words so much better than the explanations I give people for why I prefer remote. It's interesting to see some of these on the list - -wri

Cool app! my SO was asking me for something very simple to use, will ask her to give this a try. Is it required to be linked to an actual broker, or can you get limited messages from some other public data feed? For example, get alerts on

I don't normally chime in on stuff like this but you're right it does look alot like Noisli ( http://www.noisli.com/ ) I remember when that appeared on HN a while back as well. Nothing wrong with cloning something

Just bought that book after having it been recommended about a dozen times. Although I can't comment of the contents of the book (haven't read it yet), I want to point out how incredibly popular it apparently is.

This is seriously awesome!! I was just chatting with a co-worker today on PhantomCSS and how I felt visual diffing could possibly be replaced with diffing the actual dom tree. Does anyone know of an open source project working on this? I

That sounds awesome! It's good you mentioned saving for more than 1 years expenses. I'm close to that number but wanted to keep pushing to save for perhaps, 2 years or more. Yeah, send me a message sometime, would love to hear

I'm curious what you're working on for the "entrepreneurial lifestyle". I"m actually thinking of going a similar route to saving up a good few years worth of expenses, and then going solo. I'm trying to decid

I really like this comment. Things like "scanning excel and emailing based on some criteria" are exactly what led me to programming as a career. I started off small, moved into larger projects, made a career out of it. Sometime
