Time Magazine has an annual feature called "Person of the Year", in which they devote the cover story of the issue to talking about the most influential person of the year. There is a perception among some people that the selectio

He's not 60 yet, but Peter Norvig is 57 and shows no signs of slowing down. If anything he's getting more prolific with age. It seems like every time he gets on a plane he's hacking on something interesting: http://

LaTeX has a lot of excellent resume templates that don't look cluttered or messy and feel pretty clean, IMO. In that vein, WriteLaTeX is a great and free/cheap online tool that I think does a fantastic job of getting you up and ru

It seems like many of these services want you to use metered billing as part of a subscription, though. That's not really my use case. I guess I could hack it by making a $0 subscription and charging the metered portion there?

Ask HN: Is there a way to bill automatically for a metered service?

As a US citizen, if I lived outside the US and was summoned back for "questioning" by adverse parties, there's almost no reason I can imagine going. If that's truly all they want, then there's no reason it needs to

I loved the position-acceleration-velocity animation. I'd love to know how was that created (i.e. with what tools).

Why was it replaced with "#if 1" instead of just deleting the entire "if/end" delimiters? Won't that always evaluate to true?

I noticed I'm doing a lot better on this version than 2D 2048, presumably because each tile has more degrees of freedom (2 in the WASD plane, 2 in the arrow-keys plane).

FWIW, the source code is still around on GitHub, if you'd like to fork it: https://github.com/popcorn-time/popcorn-app It doesn't seem to mention the license it's released under, though.

I think the quote from "Ashton Kutcher" imploring people to give up text editors is what did it for me (but also that it's Jenn Schiffer!).

If it wasn't obvious, this post is a troll. Jenn Schiffer is a twisted, brilliant genius.

Does |x| mean something specific here in C++ that I'm not aware of, or are you just using it to bracket the expressions?

Is that really so "greedy", as you put it? Isn't it basically SaaS but with fonts? We don't seem to have a problem renting our software services on a subscription basis (Github, NewRelic, etc.).

The difference is that you have to do new work every time the destination of the data changes. Using an interface to say "here are the relevant parts" is a lot nicer than having to code it yourself.

I've charged more than $175/hr in the past, when I wasn't in a startup. There are many clients for whom above-average rates are worth it and then some. (For reference, I'm not in the Bay Area.) $175/hr, on its face,
