The argument is always that these companies are using and benefiting from news for free. Now, they aren't. It's weird to create a new kind of property right and then complain that companies are choosing to simply stop doing the

Drive totally chokes if you have tons of tiny files. Lots of things do but Drive is the worst I have seen. I unwisely tried to put a full MAME set on Drive once, and then deleted it. The files never got “deleted” but rather were still i

It always seems like the kind of gamers who are attracted to the XBox are better off with a PC. Like, if you are a dedicated gamer, maybe you have a gaming PC, a Switch, and a PS5, and that gives you pretty broad coverage / FOMO avoid

I’d frame it more as just text files…I can edit Word documents (as Word documents, not converted) that are stored on Google Drive, in Google Docs. One that feature was added, support for plain text should have been added as well. That bein

I have an iMate (admittedly I haven't hooked up my Apple Extended II in a few years), but I think the writing is on the wall. I ended up buying a modern adapter from some site called tinkerBOY but I just realized I never even tried it

Any time you "ground" something it is going to be indefinite--until the problem is fixed. What, are they going to say "take a 2 week break and then you're back in business."

If you promote things like this as research tools, ways to extract technical information quickly from complex documents, hey cool. Trying to frame your product as an alternative to "traditional reading" makes me want to barf.

The paperclip maximizer people discuss would be so intelligent that it would know that it could make itself not give a shit about paperclips anymore by reprogramming itself--but, presumably, because it currently does love paperclips, it wou

You think that the argument that LLMs should have the standard tort liability as anything else, and not a special 230-style carve-out, means that LLMs need to be "baby-proofed"? It just means they should be treated like any other

Yeah just another post to say how happy I am with mine. Maybe for a different reason. I'm not a big gamer, but I'd always have to keep some kind of PC gaming situation around (as a Mac user) because of nerd FOMO. Steam Deck is

Recipes as in the steps to cook something, the algorithm, the steps and amounts and ingredients are not copyrightable. The TEXT of a recipe is, at least to the extent it is minimally creative.

Yes. I think Google deserves a ton of credit for microformats, and you can just use a browser extension like Repibox that shows you only the recipe when you go to a recipe site. I think the reason Google wanted microformats is for Google A

Apple Podcasts does not have a silence-trimming feature, which is reason enough to not use it. It would be nice if you could have a single podcast RSS backend with multiple client apps, like you can with text RSS.

Fastmail is just normal IMAP unlike Gmail, so it works with email clients without weirdness around folders and archiving. It also supports native push notifications on iOS, which Gmail does not. And it works well with your own domain name
