Apple designs the best mobile CPUs in the industry. They're years ahead of Qualcomm and the rest. They have some of the best hardware and software engineers on the planet. You just have no idea what you're talking about.

Different foods have different effects on your metabolism, and, relevant to this article, different effects on weight. There is very strong evidence on this point. You are going to be better off eating 200 calories of protein than 200 calo

Nope, nope, nope. Reproductions can never have their own copyright. Really: No matter how much work someone does in tracking down and scanning public domain art, the "work" in question is still in the public domain. Only author

With Hover at least you get a free forward-only email address with your domain, and with Gmail, you can send email "from" any address you have control over, without needing an apps account. So, with Gmail, and with the various fi

What podcast app was ever removed from the app store? There was some controversy before they started being accepted, and then problems with search in the app store. But I'm not aware of any apps that were accepted and then removed.

It would be nice if one of the self-hosted server-side apps (Fever, Tiny Tiny RSS) replicated the Reader API. It's not really worth it for me to bother with a self-hosted solution if I have to use a web client.

I've been a Google Reader user since 2006 and have rarely seen the website. I used NetNewsWire for years, then Reeder. For me, web apps are good as sych engines between native clients, and emergency back-up ways to access data from other

Sorry, you're wrong. An author's heirs can reclaim any rights that are transferred. See, for instance this: http://www.authorsguild.org/services/legal-services/terminat... "What if the author is dead? When an author dies, his or her term

There's a difference. You never owned the work to begin with in a work made for hire. Example: a New York Times reporter never owns the copyright to his articles--they are owned by the NY Times from the beginning. There is no transfer.

I used "author" in the technical sense, which means all creators of copyrighted works. The termination is far enough in the future that only now are some prominent musicians taking advantage of it, but there have been some stories recently.

No, you can't give up your copyright in the US, no matter how hard you try. All works are automatically copyrighted when they are set down so you can't somehow avoid it or opt out. There's just no mechanism. So view a "dedication to the p

How are larger, but lower-density screens getting your money's worth? Oh well. This is why Apple keeps the iPad 2 on the market. Side-by-side, cheap sells and larger screens sell. Higher dpi and better calibrated displays don't sell.

Argh I want a smaller phone, to be less redundant with a tablet. Since I got a tablet I use my phone for audio, maps, calls, SMS, camera--all things I could do with an iPod nano-sized 2.5" display. A smaller phone would be clippable, lighte

As a mere mortal I find some aspects of "web apps" confusing. I never know whether I'm running an app locally in my browser, vs. what's happening on a remote server, etc. And I have a hard time knowing which apps are stored locally on my

Isaacson made several telling errors about Apple products, showing he didn't really know them--for example, he seems not to understand how NeXT technology is still the core of OS X and iOS. This is not a trivial detail, since if Jobs was a

I think most OEMS would rather do without the very real technical advantages that Intel brings, than be stuck with Intel. If they could switch to ARM for PCs easily they would, and there's no way they're going to sign up for Intel chips on

I think this is true as far as iOS goes--and it is more likely that Apple will open up the iPhone to third parties than that Google Now and so on will start working with third parties. My concern is more with how so many very tech-savvy peo

Typical "analyst" bullshit. Even if the story were true, alternate explanations seem more likely. E.g. Apple is moving to a 6-month tempo for updates, which would affect component ordering about now. Or, it could just be that Apple is mov

Here's something. This seems to have messed up Reeder for Mac. Any time I try to go to a page from the RSS feed I get a blank page. And if I do an "open this in browser" command I get sent to the magic scrolling page.

Edge actions and gestures are great as shortcuts for advanced users. I'm starting to think that "no chrome" UIs will never be suitable for ordinary users. Especially because they, practically speaking, will never be standard.
