Kinda ironic too when people are arguing about the importance of learning programming because it teaches logic...

This may get downvoted because it may not necessarily add much to the discussion, but I just wanted to say thanks for sharing your story. Takes a lot of courage and it will undoubtedly help someone else (deaf or otherwise).

Sorry I understand the point you're trying to make with your analogy, but I think it greatly understates the fact that deaf people have to deal with this in EVERY aspect of their lives, and not just work. No disrespect, just wanted to poin

Interesting comparison, but I find it hard to relate to at all simply due to the sheer amount of words you need to learn in a real foreign language to achieve fluency. Seems much more daunting to me...but I guess my glasses are tinted.

Ya but sometimes you just don't know who's in charge of making these decisions. I wouldn't be surprised if someone came out and said this was a calculated business decision. Nothing surprises anymore.

The only thing all these counterpoint blog posts are proving is that while programming may or may not be important for everyone to learn in the future, being able to hold and understand cogent arguments most certainly is. I've read at leas

With regards to Vert.x, it seems like really cool stuff. On the blog post about version 1 being released it mentions being able to mix and match several programming languages. Does this mean you can use different libraries written in diffe

Despite everyone's dislike of this, you have to think of this from the company's perspective. What's the cost of producing this? If they get even one sucker to buy into it, it'll have already paid for itself many times over.

Reminds me of a quote I heard somewhere from someone...(I apologize for butchering this but my memory is a bit hazy): "Never make music because you have to, otherwise it will be the end of you..." Corrections welcomed!

Unless you exhibit traits of aspergers such as often having an obsessive singular focus, this isn't about preference, it's a fact of the human condition. You will burn out and you won't be productive.

I didn't read the book but I wonder if what the scientific evidence concludes isn't necessarily the refutation of that equation, but rather that it's more complicated than x-y=z. For example, foods that require a bit more energy to consume

The basic equation is: calories consumed - calories burned = weight loss (or gain) If you lost weight it means you burned more calories than you ate.
