The reason people were screaming is because they expected America to lose. They were screaming about how stupid it is.

Hardships do come from high screen time, definitely. The poor job market is not one of them. The “screen” effect doesn’t exist. But the percentage of students enrolled in cs programs grew a lot of the last few years, and I’ve seen the passi

Well, it could be both. Having more doctors before cuts means having more after cuts.

The article mentions this. It tries to argue the significance of that platform.

OP isn’t talking about systems at large, but specifically about LLMs and the pervasive idea that they will turn agi and go rogue. Pretty clear context given the thread and their comment.

But what’s the issue? Setting lint rules is one and done - running pre-commit can be made automatic?

In one year alone, used car prices rose over 40%. That market has not corrected itself since then. That is not as simple to dismiss as, “prices rise everywhere: inflation.” https://www.collegecounts529.com/wp-content/

Right? Prices skyrocketed for all cars after COVID and never came down. At least some manufacturers have seen a pretty big increase in quality lately (Kia). Can’t say the same for our domestic manufacturers tbh. I wonder how much of this la

To be fair, if you are gnashing teeth in traffic, a bike is probably fairly dangerous outside a select few cities.

Love all D3 content, but I'd add that the data binding just to create svg is not the real reason - after all, you can do this declaratively using most modern frameworks by directly iterating over the data and returning a positioned ele

Nowadays, basically no architecture with an API is using standard attention anymore. There are all kinds of attention alternatives (e.g. Hyena) and tricks (e.g. Sliding Window, etc.) that make this analogy, as presented, flat out incorrect.

20-40 will certainly round up to a full time role, just with less pay and benefits than a regular job.

Well, op may be making the point that even the best description of horror is little compared to experiencing it. Watching a video of the horror itself (e.g. combat footage, a beheading, open-heart surgery) pales in comparison to experienci

By far the biggest complaint I hear from Observable users is the non-standard JS syntax, so great to see them moving to regular JS.

Over the last decade or two, the builder/hacker ethos has seemed to shift towards this grifter, money-over-everything attitude. I’m sure there’s a lot at play (crypto culture, VC self-selection, the attraction of ‘easy’ high salaries),

Does it? How so? If anything it showcases some of the trials otherwise unknown to those who don’t face them (eg weather, tent mold).

This is a brilliant solution for a project-based course. It does take a decent amount of effort to go through each students project and give them an ask that you know isn’t ChatGPT-able. Another great solution is to give an interview-like o

I’ve worked in AI for years (and still do!), but something about the callousness of his comments, the almost celebratory replacement of human labor, immediately made me delete Duolingo. I was a daily user and have switched over to Pimsleur.

Taking a contrarian stance on everything (exactly what you’re doing here) is not a signal. Explaining why research seems sus (what the comment does) is some form (strength proportional to the explanation) of signal.

Very surprising that this article does not mention trucks, which in America have become larger, more common, and an ever-growing contribution to the rising number of traffic fatalities. “ Pickups also tend to be more dangerous in collisions
