Same for me. Sometimes on bad nights it can be hours but I need that time to "unwind". The music is awesome. I sometimes get hypnogogia. I can imagine the music and then, as I get closer to sleep, I actually hear the music. If I d

I've been reading the Mostly Adequate guide. It's helped me. The explanations for functors and what not really helped things click after going through other articles.

Really interesting comment. I've started working on a Rails project. I don't have any professional experience with Rails in particular. Can you recommend any code bases I can read that meet these criteria?

I've noticed this but surprised by other topics. Anything that is spam worthy, like marketing or self help, is pretty much junk. But other topics on there are fascinating. I read a few weeks ago an account of someone's grandpa who

Yes, I'm struggling to think of a good mechanical example of inheritance as code reuse. But I don't agree with the "that's an interface, not inheritance" argument. Well designed super classes tend to provide an inte

I meant with regards to ACOs. The public have no idea what they are. They sound public. Stephen Hawking was fighting the government on this in court when he died. I'm guessing you know that. As for the past 8 years, it's obvious w

It seems his spent his final days fighting her legacy - a backdoor attempt at privatisation in the NHS by her party. Thatcher should never be mentioned in a thread dedicated to his legacy. He wouldn't have got this far if she had her w

Of course. I'm not saying that people who don't use shell don't do real work. My workflow happens to use shell. Trying to use the same workflow, or modified, creates too much friction on Windows. It felt sluggish.

I found this. I use a Mac at work but I've got a laptop with Windows on it. My first instinct was to partition and whack on a Linux distribution. But I chose to just leave it alone. I don't want to enamour my Mrs with a bootloader

Oh I see what you did there. Nice try squirt. C-x C-c closes Emacs. I mean M-w and C-x C-c are so damn close together it's unfortunate you might mix them up, right? That sort of crafty edit-a-roo is mighty frowned upon in most circles.

Well that doesn't copy. That closes Emacs. No wonder you're having trouble! Use M-w. You can do what you need using Emacs. Instead of context menus, you search for a less used command using M-x. It helps if you have ido-mode or he

Even better if your editor auto indents. I use aggressive indent mode for Emacs and it works ok. Sluggish on large files though.

Do all of those computer users constitute more than 10% of computer users? I don't think there's even 5% of computer users there. Talking about 3D modelling, game programming and producers like they're the majority is a techn

Last time I checked, polyfills for flexbox sucked big time. Just did not work. Maybe the landscape has changed, as it often does in JS. Given no decent flexbox polyfills, I would doubt the existence of a good grid polyfill. If we can't

Quite annoyed is a bit extreme. I'm miffed but annoyed? Rocking the boat mate. Not having a written constitution isn't as bad as it seems. The government can't do what they want. The courts do rule against them. We have quite

Wasn't really about the law itself. The same applies to all laws listed. I want to know which ones are most relevant to me. I'd like to see a summary for each one so I can make that decision before loading another page. Otherwise,

It would be better if, instead of a useless albeit pretty icon, there was a brief description of what the law is about. Fitts's Law tells me nothing about what it is other than its a UX "law" coined by someone called Fitts.

Yes. A good demo of this is starting off in 3rd gear (for demo purposes!). Without training fine clutch control, you'll just stall. After hours of traffic, it's easy.

If it's an accurate way of looking at the world, you've just demolished your own reasons for not having kids. You don't want kids because it's selfish? That must mean, using objectivist reasoning, that to you not having

Give one reason why you do anything you do without "I want". Wanting something isn't selfish. It entirely depends on what it is you actually want. Oh yes, you could argue from a hardcore libertarian stance that altruism does

Oh I agree. It's a good way to learn how something works. How do you become "good enough" to build production ready libraries that solve particular problems without practice solving said problems?

I think we've had some of this on the backend too. I've seen "you don't need a framework" a few times outside of the current JS atmosphere. Seems like the easier it is to get going, the more frameworks you'll g
