If price was the only concern, printrbot simple and junior would fly off the shelves. 3d printing seems like it will be important in how some things are made in the future, but anyone getting in now should do it out of interest, not utility

Gdb for g++ may be; msvc for c# is not! Gdb usability and performance is a (THE) major shortcoming of the gnu tool chain.

All that does is driving up home prices. 1600 sqft 4 bedrooms in cheap cities (san mateo, redwood city) are inching towards a million. If you want 2500 sqft in a walkable city with amenities, expect to pay closer to two million!

So, Broder had admitted to braking the law by going 85 to "keep up with traffic." That's the most bizarre omission here -- we don't get to pick and choose which laws we decide to follow!

You can mix and match x87 deterministically if you turn off 80 bit double internals. For SSE you need some SSE2 and 3 modes to do the same.

1) I don't want wireless at all. Too easily hacked without detection. Wired Ethernet is pretty cheap these days, and power line signaling is also available. 2) Like Twine, another HA startup, and all of the incumbents, it's too expensive.

Half high yield bond funds, half blue chip stock funds, bank all earnings, re-balance once a year, and take out 4% a year from total. On average you will do just fine! (Check against history if you want to verify)

The break is part of your working hours. And if you live an hour from work, research shows you will be much happier if you move to within 20 minutes (even if this means you get "less" for your money.) 6 hours without reddit, hacker news, me

I think the Cortex M4s that are coming out have 512 kB and up in their bigger variants. They also have more MHz and MIPS, and just need a cheap board available. The TI Stellaris Launchpad is looking good in this direction.

Exactly my reaction. You can run Python actually ON a Raspberry Pi, btw. That device is just not as robust on GPIO (5V destroys it, weak current source.)

The point of 401k is that you compound the growth on the deferred tax money, and then pay much less /present value/ tax once you retire. Index funds and high yield bond funds give you low overhead with almost no "gambling" element. Drawback

The fallacy of "A 32-core server is fast, and I can rent servers for 4 cents an hour, so I can rent a 32-core server for 4 cents" is unfortunaltely more common than I'd wish. If that simple error is in this analysis (and affects the cost an

You can buy a full Android 4.0 tablet for $35. It has Wifi, backlight, screen, CPU, battery and case. The BOM for this lamp is totally doable for a dozen dollars. It's productization that's the challenge. Sometimes, a smart scrappy start-up

It's because the market competes on features. This leads to a race to the bottom. If you go slower and test more, you will be too late and too expensive, and nobody will buy your stuff. The market does not value too high quality.

The undertones created by the high overtones are realized in the anti-aliasing filter during recording. That's not actually the reason 44 kHz sampling isn't enough.

Nyquist is true for static signals. Music is not static. Brick wall at 20 kHz and get audible phasing artifacts! (Even if your filter is phase linear)
