The sampling theorem is for static signals and perfect filters. Turns out, music isn't static. Once you have transients in the program, you need higher bandwidth or you will end up with phasing effects (time domain aliasing.) This is plain

Unit tests, acceptance tests, and integration tests are different things. Unit tests test that the implementation behaves as intended, and generally grope around private internals. These change when implementation changes. Acceptance tests

I'm sure they saved money in the short run by going with the cheapest option each time they tried to manage their documentation the last time around. On the other hand -- at the time, they didn't know which parts would be valuable, and whic

S3 gives you multi-host, multi-region redundancy. Putting it all in one box is asking for trouble. What if the raid controller grows a bug and corrupts on write? It's happened. What if there's a fire in the building that has both your serve

The people who can’t finish after double the allotted time exist in the US, too. Except here they bill the government $100+/hour to not finish FBI case file systems or air traffic control revamps. There exists good developers in India, but

No, i am referring to how vesting is actually expressed (at least in some grants I've seen). Another way to say it: "like it or not, unvested shares are re-negotiable." Get in early and vest as much as you can, if that's important!

The typical option agreement says that the stock you may purchase is subject to a right of repurchase by the company, and that right (by the company) lapses over time. So, I imagine that is totally negotiable until such time that that right

Aren't diffusion values an implicit representation of pre-calculated closest path pathfinding? Calculating diffusion incrementally is a way to update the graph over time with a known incremental cost. But it all is just a variant of Dijksta

There's a whole class of interesting, valuable challenges that you'll never get close to working on when you're alone and bootstrapping. Building value at a larger scale, as part of a larger team, can be equally fulfilling, as long as the t

The real point is: Proving stage and scaling stage are fundamentally different. Not making the transition at the right time (or at all) has probably killed as many startups as over-engineering in the proving stage.

I work with 40,000+ unit tests. I deploy across a live cluster with a single command. My co-workers and I deploy to production dozens of times a day. Every new hire gets a VM image sandbox to develop in. We still have infrastructure debt. T

I think the main thing missing with Node is best practices. We use jslint with node. And we run tests in parallel, to flush out any dependencies. We had to wrap callbacks in a sequencing library to get good stack traces, though. Node.js als
