I was on the BeOS team for many years. While we did many interesting things, and especially kernel and driver layers were more modern than the alternatives, Palm threw away those pieces. If I were to build (or fund) a new OS today, I'd

While this comparison is true for 100-200 year ago industrial jobs, and farming in subsistence conditions, the original hunter gatherers had plenty of free time, and that's what we're evolved for. Main problem is, there's to

You assume that dissent needs privacy to grow. In a free society, I don't see why that is necessary (or even desired.) The financial crisis was driven in part by "private" takes on "publicly available" investments -

The only real solution is to build a culture where nobody (private our public) expects or gets privacy. There are lots of things people "would rather not share," that don't matter if we all know that people are people. Beside

The article talks about mobile app feeds, and I understand how I could build a system rpc server for mobile and desktop apps. How would this work for web apps? The headline says "real-time web!" Compare this solution to push it al

I'm 45. I walked alone to and from school every day of my youth since I was 7. My kids do the same. This is totally normal. However, some states are still ruled by people who want to teach creationism, or legislate that pi is 3, becaus

I would argue that this statement is a mistake that should have been foreseen: "negative integers isn't literals!" Specifically, twos complement signed integers will be a bitch of you continue down that path.

The other problem with a cache buster is that it logically changes the endpoint of what you're viewing. We like HATEOAS and dislike clients editing URLs. As an aside for search and filtering, we do allow clients to add query parameters

Good point. We actually use MySQL and Regis for persistency with a helping of memcached for good measure. The "graph" part is an API view on our data, not the canonical storage.

If the SQL is I/O bound, the kdb version cannot be 1000x faster. And if it's not I/O bound, you're not pushing it right. (Nite: compare columnar SQL here.) K can't make your I/O subsystem faster, and the new OS
