I was on a first date the other week and was explaining some of my ideas and the lady I was with nearly wet herself with excitement telling me about a webapp she'd love to have. After thinking about it and asking a few other women I know,

I'm not sure what you mean by 'provide more'. The entire idea behind the government owning the infrastructure and not the services that run on them is to stimulate fair competition between private enterprises. I wouldn't really want the g

I believe the government should provide the following services: 1) Emergency services. These are things you don't really have time to negotiate price on or do research for. Police, national defense, fire and rescue, emergency medical. Th

About 5 years back I had an idea for a free wireless system. I'd go and offer places like Starbucks and Chapters free wireless for their customers. The hardware at their end would be a simple DSL/Cable modem hooked up through a small form

You're assuming people buy books to read them, not to display them and have them be status symbols.

It's spyware with an altruistic motive. In Founders at Work the guy touched briefly on the ethics behind it and drawing the line.

I've been puttering around on a Facebook app to do this kind of thing. I've been wanting to make private notes and the like about people on there. I have a horrible memory sometimes and it'd be really nice to have a place to jot things do

Staying in Canada ;) The downside is not being around silicon valley and not having access to a like minded support network in person.

Taking your definition of frivolous to be anything not directly related to my work, no, I don't find it insulting. Being happy at work makes you more productive. For me this comes first from having a sense of purpose and importance. After

My personal feelings are strongly anti-podcast. I find them a great inconvenience. I can read faster than people can talk and I can't think or work effectively when someone is talking. Written communication is by far my favorite way of g

I picked up his book, Art of the Start, a few weeks ago and was somewhat disappointed. I love Guy, except that Garage invested in Gator/Claira, and read his blog and watch his speeches. After that there really was nothing new in the book.

First off I apologize because you need to be on Facebook to use this. Our YC app was rejected and my founder stayed at his job and I decided to go on ahead and see if I could make our idea work. The gist of what we submitted to YC was a pl

News.yc is written in arc, which to my best knowledge is a functional lisp like language. Reddit is written in Python using web.py as the framework. It was originally written in lisp but they changed to Python for various reasons.

I'm hacking away as we speak. I'm taking the root of what I applied to YC with and trimming it down a lot. Mostly I just want to learn the API and I think that being able to link into an existing social framework provides great benefits.

I use Django. For the most part it does the heavy lifting and then gets out of my way and lets me code. Another large factor I really like is the peace of mind knowing that it actually works in production environments and isn't impossible

To be honest, this doesn't interest me in the least. It fills me with deep unmoving apathy. I don't think that the information gathered would be useful outside of an initial voyeuristic kick. Overall statistics might be neat as well, but

My roomate is CTO for a company that builds giant kiosks. Every so often I go in and help him out. The workstation I was at last time had two 42" plasma's and a 50" LCD. The things are 1080p, so not too shabby, but in general they're just
