This is possible with existing general monorepo tools. We use Bazel for Python and other languages. With Python, we have a single requirements.txt at the root of the monorepo, but each target (a Python package, a module, an app, or some com

One problem with pip freeze (and pip-tools) is that it won't capture platform-specific dependencies. For example, ipython depends on appnope only on macos. If you build your lock file on Linux or Windows, the appnope version won't

Well, that seems like a builder problem, no some inherent problem with smarthome equipment.

I've never had this problem. All of my remotely-controllable switches are just in spots that people would place normal switches, but they're additionally remotely controllable.

But any decent smart switch works as a normal switch by default, without any care or feeding. Sure, controlling them remotely and adding them to automation takes additional work, but that's stuff that is just impossible with the dumb

What is proper decoupling? In a properly-tooled monorepo, project A can't take a dependency on project B unless B is a public library or explicitly gives access to A [1]. Authors have full control over coupling. Sure, avoid changing th

At least at Google: you don't. There is just one current version of your library. There are exceptions, but for the vast majority of things there is no concept of versioning.

I believe Starlark being turing-complete would be a bug. The language takes steps to avoid it by disallowing recursion and only allowing iteration over finite sequences.

One thing about traceroute that I doubt most casual users think about (maybe I'm wrong) is that its output only shows you the forward path. That is, it shows you the path your packet takes from when it leaves your machine to when it ge

`app_prod.apply` is just an executable target that can do the non-hermetic stuff. The hermetic building of rendered yaml files, docker images containing built app artifacts, etc. happens through normal Bazel actions.

I'm not sure it's so black and white. We have bazel targets that invoke the Serverless framework (for deploying to lambda), or invoke kubectl (rules_k8s), and we `bazel run` these targets in our GitHub workflows. Through dependenc
