These numbers are easy to compute myself. For the 6 months my panels did not produce enough electricity, we used a total of 2.1MWh from the grid. So my 50% guestimate was actually spot on :)

Our panels produced a mere 60kWh in december. We've got 6 months where we use more than we produce. Storing 50% was a quick estimate as for what we'd need. Anybody got better numbers for that?

This is a family of 5 in the mid-Europe. We don't use electricity for heating or cooling, and we're still burning gasoline to drive around. These are pretty normal numbers around here.

So, with about 10.000 kg of these in my basement (2MWh capacity), I should be mostly self-sufficient? Nice! (4MWh electricity usage per year, with solar panels producing slightly more)

Seems pretty scary that their demo video shows medical images having their resolution 'increased'. Does this add anything to the original images?

They were mostly populair because they were cheapest to lease business-wise (there were no good alternatives 4 years back). Tax break is over now, and I hear lots of complaining from people who are now required to lease an EV due to company

There was a story about reverse engineering highspeed Broadcom networkcard firmware on HN last week. That included a custom compression if I remember correctly. This is the post: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38772862

A hash (whether MD5 or some SHA) on IP4-address is easily reversed. Summing octets is non-reversable, so it seems like a good 'hash' to me (but note: you'll get a lot of collisions). And of course, IANAL.

I'm not using PiHole but I also get the endless recaptcha loop. I am using Firefox though. Is Privacy Badger the culprit, or uBlock Origin?

I felt the same but had more luck. I found this comparison in their docs[1]: 'NATS Comparison to Kafka, Rabbit, gRPC, and others'. 1: https://docs.nats.io/nats-concepts/overview/compare-nats

I can see how this works for slow autoimmune diseases mentioned in the article. But I suppose using it for fast autoimmune diseases is more difficult (thinking about Guillaume Barré Syndrome in particular, which can get you to an IC in 48 h

He links to a very nice government site which seems to have an interactive (and somehow coloured) Lidar map of the whole country [1]. Navigation is a bit awkward (you need to double-click to move around), but you can almost make out car mod

> Maybe 120V AC isn’t objectively the best. It is not indeed, 240V AC is better as you need only half the current for the same amount of power.

Looks nice! What kind of (server based) calendar could be used with this? Can e.g. Ldap be used for a shared/corporate address book?

Indeed. Our debit cards are visa/mastercard, but such cards have numbers like NL01BANK012345678901 (IBAN). Credit cards have no additional benefit in day-to-day life but do have an additional cost. Ideal is actually ideal for consumers
