May I perhaps add my rant 50 cents here and link to my post about this? https://www.justus.pw/garden/telemetry.html It’s opt out, and it doesn’t even completely disable it (unless given an env var as well) The devs kno

I wonder what some of the regional quirks are, instances where the implementation strays from the standard, but if you don’t do it in quirks mode, you can’t connect to the cellular connection or calls will not go through etc. A sort of woop

So if governments are sniffing on high entropy traffic, could we just send normal seeming (SSH or whatever) packets with the payload coming from /dev/urandom? Would that be a denial of service?

This is great. I often look at unit tests to understand how to use legacy code. Seeing a law come with concrete examples that are part of the legal text, would allow us to test if a rule is logically consistent, and test our understanding a

This is what I love about the internet: to anything you can write you can get the most enlightened or insane response. I hope that years later, your response will end up on the right side of these two. (Provided this lands on some kind of i

Reminds me of the old I’m color blind, I don’t see race trope. Recognizing where someone is coming from, even if you don’t personally like it, that’s a basic requirement for communication. Those instance where people complain about misgende

The issue with people is that we all have very different ideas of what kind and respectful behavior is? Especially relevant when so many different folks from so many places come together online. Setting the minimum standards helps set expec

I used to feel frustrated about the flag, having bought an Nvidia GPU for ML, not knowing how badly DRM works on it. I don’t blame the maintainers of a compositor of struggling with Nvidia holding back a proper API? My Intel built in GPU wo

I really appreciate Drew stepping up against harassment in open source communities. Deciding on a CoC is such a low effort issue, just get it over with!

This is really interesting as I am looking for a route planner that I can use with my old Garmin Edge without having to do 3rd degree API connections in the background every time. All I want is a route file that I can copy on the device usi

If opt in renders it useless then I dare question whether modern open source as a mode of development and operation is feasible at all, if the underlying foundation is snooping based on uninformed consent. Yes, many tools give you an option

On the one hand I see the appeal of staying inside, say, Django the whole time and getting 3x done. On the other hand I am so pampered by front end component based templating especially with Tailwind. It would be cool if I could just import
