So let me get this straight, going back 30-ish years is a-okay when caused by climate change but going back slightly less to curb it is a problem? We haven’t reached some sort of equilibrium and will stay at the currently committed level of

Hilarious how Hacker News routinely bashes software managers who don’t understand a problem space and give vague and impossible goals. But somehow “just don’t let an aircraft fly itself into the ground” is a reasonable statement.

But the 787 doesn’t have an easily confused layout like that. The landing gear lever and fuel cut off switches are not two stalks on the yoke. Aircraft cockpits are deliberately designed in such a way that important things have differently

Same with trains. If they don’t run, they start to lose a lot of money for the operator really fast.

Most tetra pak like materials and even aluminum cans are actually lined with plastic. Plastic is the greatest material ever, right until it needs to be disposed and then suddenly the biggest upside becomes the biggest downside.

Not to ruin a joke, but does it actually make a difference for SRAM? It’s two inverters in a loop, despite not being the same size they are active components. But I’m also a software guy so I could be totally wrong.

Not to mention that $4000 is in fact expensive. If anything the OP really makes the point of the articles title.

You are also asked if you have ever been denied entry into a country when travelling abroad. Even if nothing else happens and you do just get flown straight back, it can make future travels harder.

I have found that even 2 bit quantization works, but you have to make sure you only discard the LABs (that’s what we are calling the Left Aligned Bits internally). I have no idea why it works so well but it has cut our costs significantly.

But the simple answer is that the devices suck and people don't want to use them. This is going to be more and more true as time goes on because new people coming in will be used to the creature comforts they have from their personal e

After watching the video I was trying to find out just how much one of those microscopes cost. Couldn’t find a price anywhere so I’m assuming it’s far out of my budget. But this kind of video is probably the greatest kind of ad there is, ju

I find this actually very upsetting. My wife does calorie counting and all of the apps for it are horrible, especially the market leaders. But those have one thing going for them: Databases of nutritional information, which can be used for

These days it wouldn’t be too hard to make an active adapter with a small microcontroller in it. Not as cheap as just routing some wires though.

Without any value judgement on the actual orders, Trump signed 89 since taking office this year. Biden signed 77 in his first year in office. There certainly seems to be a difference unless this is comin to a stop relatively quickly.

What boggles my mind is the fact that surely people working for Google also use Chrome. Are they not up in arms internally because of how awful the web is without ad blocker? I have the same experience as you, every time I set up a new mach

Not just that but it’s also not a USBC driver but a USB driver written in C. Everything about this was wrong. The original article is really upsetting because this just isn’t a big deal at all, at least given the current information.

But Microsofts replacement isn't going to magically run on air and love alone either. MS still ends up with the bill at the end of the day. Don't get me wrong, I think this is a good strategy for MS, but not for datacenter cost re

Being able to outspend the other side is definitely a good indicator of winning odds. There is some friction of course, but it’s a very rough approximation of how much industrial might you can put into the field. And just having money isn’t

This is eye opening to me. I have been swearing by Directory Opus for years, but I was also under the misguided impression that most Norton Commander clones were long gone. Love seeing so many alternatives, I’ll have to go check the, out.

It depends. If the code flow is uniform for the warp, only side of the branch needs to be evaluated. But you could still end up with pessimistic register allocation because the compiler can’t know it is uniform. It’s sometimes weirdly hard

I think images also have much higher information density than words, or at least they can. There is a reason a picture is worth 1000 words.
