robots.txt is not a legal document. It is asking nicely, and plenty of crawlers purposefully ignore it.

"Timers"? You mean: the timer. You can still only set one timer. Yet another deficiency. Its like the people who work on iOS don't ever cook multiple things at once.

I want to say this is fairly reasonable for a 400k vehicle, but two AC compressors before 120k miles is crappy. An electric-driven compressor has a muuuuuch easier life than one driven by serpentine belt that with a clutch. It should be ess

Maybe this is a windows thing? I use Firefox on MacOS and it is more performant than Chrome. I rarely have to restart Firefox. Chrome needs a restart at least twice a day (I use Chrome for google hangouts a lot). This changed recently with

This article needlessly and incorrectly shits on art school. There are many, many good careers that come out of going to art school, or better yet getting a design degree at an art school. So, maybe have a talk with your kid about _applied

It also omits the part where google starts preloading and rendering the AMP page when the user is still on the search results. Without that, AMP is often no faster than many non-amp pages.

I agree with all of this, but until google provides a way to appear in the discover box without having AMP-published pages, this is a non-starter for publishers. Ironically, by creating AMP, google has disincentivized publishers from making

Americans can order contact lenses from abroad without a prescription, legally. I have purchased from the UK for about half the cost, with international shipping, compared to what any U.S. based seller wanted. Not to mention less hassle. I

Water is more scarce than you think. We're depleting groundwater faster than it is being replenished in a _vast_ swath of the country. See: https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2019/08/0...

Some meteorologists are not in love with the new model. My local forecaster/weather blogger suggests that the v3 model tends to overestimate cold snaps and move storms too fast in the mid-latitudes: https://blogs.mprnews.org

Dear Justice Department: Take a look at google AMP and how they use it to strong-arm publishers by linking it to search placement. You'll find some stuff.

55 years of republicans working to lower taxes and demonize public employees has had an effect, even in cities that don't vote republican. Our cities are starved of money for basic maintenance and to pay the best and the brightest to d

Try using keyboard navigation or a screen reader on that NYT demo. There isn't a single accessible thing on the page. Not even the logo. You can't even select the text. It's awful.

I've asked the AMP team exactly this and they punted and demurred on the subject and said they have some vague plans to some day make it also contain sites that are as fast as AMP. The AMP team will tell you that they are concerned wit

Rubbish? You mean like keeping the web working and making sure URLs never die? Not everything needs to be upgraded to the latest hot thing. HTTPD is proven & stable; this is a rare bug.

One of the side effects of this problem I see is poor accessibility. So many devs learn the latest hottest javascript framework as the way to make a webpage. They end up making pages that are full of div + span soup, with complicated javasc

I, too, sadly have to code on AMP bullshit for work. To be a valid AMP page (at least, according to the Google overlords) you _must_ use the CDN'd AMP scripts. This is the very antithesis of what the world wide web is supposed to be ab
