Agreed. We don't consider Android and iOS programmers interchangable (except in so far as we consider all programmers at JTV to largely be generalists who can work on whatever they put their minds to). Android and iPhone are different platf

Great question; obviously we've thought a lot about it: 1) First, it shows you videos of your friends. When we looked at how we used videos we realized we didn't go to Youtube to find videos our real life friends had taken. 2) Second, we le

You are right; the timeline we were up against was extremely tight because of external deadlines. Crunching to this degree runs an extremely high risk of burn out and is not normal, and I don't believe it is something that should be done un

FWIW: With Socialcam, Eric implemented unit tests for the API (which powers the client apps), and initially for the website but later we decided against them for the site. Having them on the API definitely has been worth the initial cost as

Videos are public but there are no central directories or search. The only way to get a link to a video is from a share (Facebook, Twitter, email, sms) or by viewing a friend or friend of friend. We might add some form of strict privacy in

Also, your videos will upload in the background as you record them, making upload time much shorter (but only be published when you click "Finish" at the end of the creation).

We will add independent login in the future. We started with Facebook because it is easy to bootstrap the network, it is where most people want to share their videos anyways, and it allows us to keep the content clean much easier as most pe

Doubtful. We didn't even have the idea of the platform when we came up with Justin.tv. Our pitch was more along the lines of "Here's something we're passionate about that is cool" -- PG believes in funding people and believed in funding us.

Ah, sorry, reading comprehension fail. Why didn't the platform exist pre-Justin.tv? 1) Bandwidth prices were much higher in 2007, and have plummeted in the past few years, making the economics more attractive. 2) There were no good, stable

Justin.tv (neither an online streaming live show of some guy's life, nor a streaming platform for live video) didn't exist before we were funded, fyibtw.

Looking back, of course it isn't a lot of money, especially when you consider how well justin.tv is doing and that we have raised millions in VC since then. However, consider that we were thinking we would get nothing initially and would ha

I asked them how they valued the auction. Response: - 50k for the domain name - 175k (or so) for two man-years of engineer time and the code - 25k for user base This is all a bit fuzzy and from memory, so I could be somewhat off.
