I have avoided RAID for the past 20 years and will avoid it in future. The whole technology and its benefits is about picking pennies before the steamroller, with explosive complexity of failures. I prefer much more simple and understandabl

I have started from already existing FSM libs (which did not fit well) and after couple of experiments understood that creating own custom FSM processor is a no-brainer with clojure/core.match

Yes. Can't share the whole repo (it's our internal product), but here are two files (FSM macro and FSM itself) you can explore. Let me know it that helps. https://gist.github.com/juskrey/61148c98bdde871a8d3743

Once upon a time I have implemented POP3 server protocol state machine in Clojure. 180 lines in total, of which 40 were FSM declaration, 140 command handling functions. Not sure I'll ever want to approach FSM in any other language,

Basically optimizations and "modelling" are the reason resource allocations are total failure in the case of rare emergencies, like ongoing. You assume the worst "one in a 1000 years" case, multiply by 2..10, depending o

Insurance and reinsurance just clip the tail contractually, they never take "infinity multiplied by some small percent" risk! They don't go underground when their client does.

You can quantify in normal domains e.g. probability of seeing a human over 2.05m tall. You CAN'T quantify tail risk in unbounded (for practical purposes) domains, period. This is just ridiculous: "For this example, there’s about a

He is a PR consultant, what would you expect him to sell? PR conultant's way of doing things: Spend the budget. If project was a win, claim own success. If the project was a failure, blame a business, never show results.

How about really antifragile generation: you just quit 5/9 job, have a long walk, take a good nap, and ideas come by themselves. Carmack, with all of his all-work no-rest culture, is hardy antifragile. Or did he change his attitude?

Mostly the preservation of brand name, which is never the same as the company. Especially true for different public facing things like restaurants and breweries, which is almost always a retrobranding trick. Family tree washing.

Transferwise has real human phone support, which so far was great for my business account. +1 for prices - I am paying Transferwise fees with pleasure, knowing all those money are returning back to me via great services.

Rust forces you to deal with edge cases using very low-order, often Procrustean bed reasoning. This does not mean there are much more powerful higher level ways of doing this. (Pattern matching I got in exchange have made me cry)
