You have to look at the system as a whole. They run Bitfinex, a centralized exchange. They can just change balances in a database, like FTX. There’s no need for fractional reserve. Tether is simply shadow banking and brings liquidity into B

“Expert” is a bit strong. FDA reviewers aren’t exactly Nature editors. It’s kind of a coast job. Outside of biologics I think you just need a bachelor’s.

I don’t think that’s fair. If I could cross a border to earn $5M a year, I wouldn’t call the locals hateful for coming up with ways to protect their own livelihoods, and I wouldn’t feel entitled to a say.

It raises the bar for crime to organizations with state sponsorship. Not sure that’s the outcome we’re looking for.

It’s a great test because the two humans can work together. I’m sure you and I can figure out a way to tell me apart from ChatGPT 100% of the time.

I don’t really see how their findings address their first research question. Some data on publication bias would’ve been stronger. Relatedly, wonder how you get published in the Harvard Misinformation Review. Side note: it’s wild to me how

There’s an implicit public interest. You don’t get to do whatever you feel like just because you decide not to pay taxes.

Dog whistle for what? Calling for deportation? The comment is literally just “we can’t take every immigrant.” What other position is there?

Feels a little silly to be forced to have a chat with the lady at the grocery store pharmacy about dick pills whenever I might need them. I can just order it on Amazon apparently.

It’s more of a thought experiment. Here’s another with more commercial applications: Suppose I start a service called “EastlawAI” by downloading the Westlaw database and hiring a team of comedians to write very funny lawyer jokes. I take We

Well yeah, copying a work and using it for its original expressive purpose isn’t fair use, no? You have to use it for a transformative purpose. Suppose I’m selling subscriptions to the New Jersey Times, a site which simply downloads New Yor

I don’t see it either, but exploitation was a big theme of Marxism-Leninism, and maybe one of them argued that fixing the exploitation of vulnerable people required abolishing the “society of the will” and adopting the “society of reason” o

If the future of humanity rests on access to old NYT articles, we’re fucked. Why can’t OpenAI try to get a license if the NYT archives are so important to them?

I think the methylated pseudouridine is actually a tRNA component. Could be wrong. I’m not sure what the 3D structure of the vaccine mRNA is, but it could depart quite a bit from the high-school-biology linear strand portrayal of mRNA. >

I don’t think microecon 101 is an accurate model for IP licensing. Netflix just bought up unwanted licenses off distributors in the early days IIRC. It’s an arb play.
